National American University is a complete farce. I have had nothing but issues with them. I first tried to work with them and they would never return my calls, communicate on the blackboard, return emails, or any sort of contact for my school work. I needed to be taught, not directed to a forum. They never seem to have a lack of time for me now that they think i owe them money. I did not receive any sort of education from them whatsoever, but their fees just keep adding on to the money that i never owed them in the first place. Once, while talking to one of the so-called financial idiots to try to collect from me, she even told me about a class that I owe them for, that i had not even signed up for. I suppose it was in the natural progression of the course. Anyway, they were able to withhold my taxes two years ago and kept over 5,000 dollars. It was my understanding at that point that my nightmare was over. But, now i am getting calls recently that the unpaid balance which i didn't even know about has been collecting interest and i now supposedly owe them 8,000 dollars again. I so upset that the federal government even allows such a scam to exist. Someone please give me some advice and help me know what to do about this. If i could have afforded an attorney, i would have gotten one the first time. Ugh! So people end up with no education, no help from this school, and they keep the financial aid money, and tell you that you still owe extra on top of that, plus outrageous interest. Can you believe that crap like this happens in America?
The first quarter that I took was online and they would answer my calls. Then as time went on no one answers the phone or don’t call you back. Last quarter I am out of Tulsa area school and the Dean of the school is my so called adviser. I was having problems with my Accounting class and called to get a tutor that they say they have well they didn’t have one for this class. She said that you are allowed to do each assignment up to 4 times, So she said do it once and copy the answers and do it again so you can get an A.
Also my first financial aid went through no problem. But this time on sept 26 2014 everyone else got their money but me. So I called THEM and asked what was up. They said something is wrong with my paperwork. I would think they should have called me with a problem and they did NOT call me. Yes I am not working so I can take classes. So I count on the money to live on. So I wrote to the financial lady and I get this whatever it means:
Your loans have already paid out for the quarter, so there is nothing further left there, but the 13/14 pell disbursements ended with the summer quarter and 14/15 pell has to be awarded and disbursed starting fall quarter. This is why we had to redo some of your paperwork. We just submitted all your paperwork a week ago, so now we are waiting on a revised award letter to come out that included 14/15 pell. Once you receive the revised award letter, the Pell can pay to the school.
Your account balance is currently 145.62 after the loans paid, and that balance will be cleared when the Pell pays out to the school. After your balance is at zero, any additional funds remaining will go to you.
So they went ahead and used my loan money instead of waiting for my pell and other money first.
So then I look up the financial aid website for information and they said they send the money to the school so I take it that they have it and won’t give it to me. So we are supposed to be waiting for paperwork they already have.
And with the 2 stupid classes that they make everyone take like strategy’s for success and CIS about computers is ridiculous. Its just for them to make extra money. I am in the business major so why should I have to take 3 accounting classes. And other classes that has nothing to do with my major.
I also had problems with them and giving me credit for my Associates classes from another school. They said they didn’t get my transcripts. I believe all this should have happened 2 quarters ago. I am in my 3rd quarter and am now getting to the point in which I would love to transfer to another school. But I hear you will lose some of the aid you get.
For all of you considering attending NAU... Don't! They will harras you like no tomorrow and will do everything they can to make sure you stay with them, even against your own wishes. It takes forever to get them to listen to you. Just today I received an email stating that I was about to be "administrativly withdrawn" after I had already sent them (via postal mail) my hand-written withdrawl letter. Stay far far away! They are basically like Ashford University: want their money even if the education you get isn't of "high quality".
Aside from that: financial aid takes 4-6 weeks for the "federal government" to release your funds and it is "common" to pay for books out of pocket. Funny thing is I have never had to pay for any books out of pocket until I went here. Hmm, makes me wonder.
Believe me people, there are better schools out there with cheaper tuition rates that are acreddited in all areas of the USA so stay far far far away from National American University.
I have been going to National American University for some time now. I was told by my learner services person to take a class and then drop it before the add/drop period. I did exactly as I was advised because I was on probation due to illness and did not want to mess that up. I was then told after passing my classes that I was suppose to stay in the class I was advised to drop, because during probation I can not drop a class I started. I was then called by her and the Campus Director (later on finding out her husband) that I lost my financial aid and will need to pay cash for the following term. After a few phone calls and documents that needed to be signed fyi, since I was not present and did not have means to a fax machine or scanner, I was asked by the Campus Director if he could sign my documents...really? They told me that they would work something out on the payments, something didnt feel right though. My learning services perion started stuttering on the phone when I was asking questions and then started ignoring my phone calls and emaills.
After a couple of days I found out that the campus director made a few calls and my financial aid was reinstated. I felt really awkward at the whole situation. After talking to further students I have heard similiar or worse stories. I even called to talk to her again and was redirected because guess what...SHE GOT PROMOTED!!! It is a shame that the husband and wife are doing that to the students. I also have been trying to get in touch with the financial aid department evidently all of the financial aid for National American University has been put on hault and no one seems to know why. This is a very shady school and have very shady people working there. My sister told me she has been trying to call for a week now and finally got someone on hold from the corporate office only to transfer her to the Campus Director's voicemail.
