I answered an ad on craigslist jobs for a mystery shopper thinking that the company was interested in feed back on their product, personel and over all service. What I found was that it was just a way for the company to generate "leads" for the telemarketers to call and solicitate business, while the "mystery shopper company" earned money on the sales of the "referrals"
Here is a letter I wrote to them after just the first assignment (which was about 12 online solicitations which caused tons of unwanted emails, phone calls and telemarketers harrassing me about everything from life insurance to going back to school to home secutiry systems and yes even attorneys calling me to try to sell their services to sue people for injuries and illnessess) So if you want to spend 5 hours and make 12$ and get flooded with unwanted emails and have your phone ringing off the hook with telemarketers check them out....personally a waste of time and very annoying. No money to be make here.
Actual letter I wrote to the company.
I just wanted to let you know that after seeing the first job sheet and doing 6 of the first assignments I will not be continuing to be participating in the "mystery shopping" job. I do not feel like this is a legitimate business opportunity. You have little to no interaction with the company, getting no feedback on the company or how they treat their consumers or about their product and are just "giving" out your contact information to all of these companies and setting yourself up for unlimited amounts of spam and telemarketing calls and contacts via, phone, email and mail. I feel like this is just a way for you to be a third party company who's prime objective is to feed "leads" to companies of which I'm sure you earn a profit on. In selling them to the companies. What you are doing is dishonest to people who are honestly trying to earn some extra income for their families. The pay is also not as you indicate, nor is the time frame reasonable for getting the job done. Very misrepresented and dishonest. I will definitely spread the word on this to others. You should be ashamed of yourselves for deceiving people.
