We attended a presentation in Pasadena, CA for this travel club at night. They presented themselves as having received an A+ rating from the BBB. We charged the membership on our credit card after we were offered several discounts to bring the price down (now wonder if everyone in the room paid a different price for the same product and am curious how much lower we could have gone!).
After work over the next two evenings, I looked more closely at the paperwork and tried getting on the websites we were given. First alarm: the company given the BBB A+ rating was not the travel club we had purchased. It was a tavel wholesale company out of Florida, with very little information to browse. My Getaways LLC was not known by them. Second alarm:I was blocked from being able to compare prices. As presented to us, this travel club could get better prices than Priceline, Orbitz, etc. I wanted to see if that was true as I had just been putting together a trip. Not being able to substantiate their claim during the five day cancellation period was a red flag. Third alarm: when I sent an email to member services at My Getaways LLC it bounced back a couple of times, thereby using up another day of our grace period trying to find out if they were a scam or legitimate. At this point, I wanted a refund as things seemed rather deceptive! Who knew if any of the lifetime promises being made weren't fradulent.
On the paperwork we had been given, there was a different phone number listed to make reservations. We'd been told it wouldn't be active to us for five days (conveniently, the length of the cancellation period). I called it to get the correct email address of My Getaways. It was a different company entirely called VacationOwners.net. Fortunately, they had the correct email address we needed, as that was required to send our cancellation in writing and we'd been blocked from doing so up to that point.
We followed the instructions to the "T" as written in the contract on the fourth day of the grace period to the correct email address. We called several times to confirm. We emailed, requesting My Getaways confirm they had received our paperwork. It took until the afternoon of the fifth day to get that acknowledgement.
Three weeks later they still have not credited back our charge card. Odd, since they charged their fee the very next day after we had signed thier contract but can't seem to reverse it. We turned this in as a dispute to our card company after all the promises from the My Getaways office had not materialized. They've had their phone service turned off "due to bad weather."
Whether the three companies involved in this enterprise are legitimate and provide lower travel prices than the existing online services, I have no idea. Thank goodness we charged the fee, as our credit card company stands behind us. Imagine trying to get your cash or check back! I'd be interested to know if anyone living in the San Jose area would go check out their office and see if My Getaways LLC is a full-service travel agency/club as was presented.
