On June 16, 2014 my child attended this daycare for the first time. This was her first time ever attending a day care. She's 20 months old. When I went to pick her up after work at 4:30pm, I noticed she was dirty with yogurt from snack time & had dirt all over her hands & clothing. I asked the teacher about it & she said they tried cleaning her up with wet wipes, but that they don't wash their hands with soap & water. Annoyed I left & went home. Upon further examination, I found that she also had a bump on the side of her forehead.
The next day, I asked the teacher about the bump & she did not know where she had gotten the bump. I asked her to please wash my child's hands with soap & water because wet wipes do not sanitize, & asked her to be more attentive to my child. That day (June 17) I picked up my child from daycare at 5pm to receive news from the teacher that she had scratched her & another child out of excitement, however the incident report read differently. It stated that another child had scratched my child on her neck with a book. Confused I let it go & went to her classroom. I was appalled to see my child sitting next to another child whom was vomiting profusely and that my child was sticking her fingers in the vomit. The teacher was alone & had asked me to call for another staff member to come help her. I did & immediately grabbed my child to wash her hands & left the premises.
The next day (June 18), I received a call at 3:30pm from the daycare stating that I needed to bring more clothes for my child to wear. Upon asking them why, they stated because my child was experiencing diarrhea & had dirtied all her spare clothing. Prior to this call, my child had three episodes of diarrhea that they did not inform me of until after I arrived at the school. When I arrived, my child was crying uncontrollably with only a shirt & diaper on. I decided that I needed to take her home. She smelled of diarrhea, & had red blotches on the inside of both her legs. I did not receive an incident report about this. I took her home, gave her a bath & found that her private parts were bright red, raw and yeasty looking.I took her to her pediatrician first thing in the morning at 8:45am (June 19), & she found my child to have a yeast infection, ear infection, & stomach bug.
On Thursday & Friday (June 19 and 20), I kept my child home & stopped working. I decided it was time to withdraw her from that daycare. I went there on Friday morning with my mother to speak with the director & retrieve my child's belongings. Upon arriving, the director already had my child's belongings at the front desk (though I never called to inform them of my intentions) & presumed to tell me that I was unwelcome there & that she did not appreciate the comments I made about these incidents on my Facebook. I told her I didn't appreciate how my child was taken care of the last three days she was there. She proceeded to talk over me while her assistant made obnoxious faces at me. Meanwhile, my mother was trying to retrieve their license number from a board inside the office. However, the font was too small for my mother to read, so she stepped inside the office to get a better look & the lady that was making faces at me threatened my mother saying if she didn't get out of her office that she was going to call the police. My mother is a retired correctional officer so she wasn't worried about her threats. We then attempted to get their full names, however they didn't want to give us their names. The ladies proceeded to tell us we needed to leave, that we had no right to be there, & we did leave without incident.
Later, I realized they didn't give me back all my child's belongings, however I do not care those things; they are replaceable, my child isn't. All that matters is that my child is out of their care. This day care was inadequate in their ability to provide proper care for my child. In my opinion, they do not provide a clean nor safe environment for my child. Nor did they follow proper procedures in writing up incidents. I have pictures to prove my statements.
I'm not looking for a refund. What I want is for people to be aware of the inadequacies this daycare possesses. It should be investigated to make sure that other children are not enduring the same treatment my child had received. I did not find this place to be the best facility to take care of children, since in the first three days she attended it, she went through so much. This is the first time she has ever had an ear infection, a yeast infection, & stomach bug. I feel they need to wash all the children's hands with soap and water to prevent the spread of germs, have hand sanitizer readily available for adult use in the halls & classrooms, & should follow their own procedures more efficiently when it comes to reporting incidents. This was a very disheartening experience to face being that it was my child's first experience in a daycare & my first time trusting a stranger to watch her. I lost time from work due to this daycare & cannot return to work until I can find a new daycare for my child. On top of that, I spent over $300 in the first week's tuition in which my child only attended 3 days of the first week. Like I said in the beginning, I'm not looking for my money back but I want people to consider this before they let this daycare take care of their child.
