THIS PLACE IS A SCAM – RUDE – LIARS – RIPOFF!!!!! DO NOT HIRE THEM TO MOVE A-N-Y-T-H-I-N-G!
Please understand, I own my own business so I know what’s it’s like to be honest and do your best to do right by your clients, these people DO NOT care about you and will not take good are of ANY of your stuff – especially your most expensive items like a 70 inch TV.
This is going to be a pretty long review but it will be worth it if you want to know what you’d be getting yourself into by giving them your hard earned Monday.
My husband calls and gets a quote from Mr. Mover to move our 4 bed 3 bath house + 2 car garage. He proceeds to explain all the large items in each room so that they would know what they are dealing with ahead of time.
RICK (ß remember that name, you will see it in other reviews on different websites as well, including the Better Business Bureau) told him that it would only take his crew 4 hours and gave him a verbal quote of a little over $800 since it would be 4 guys and two trucks. Seemed reasonable to us when it takes us about 8 hours to move ourselves and it’s just the two of us.
When the guys show up, they do a walk through, we pay our first hour + trip charge of $320 and they get to work getting the truck loaded at 8:45AM.
By noon my husband realizes that by their pace it’s going to take them closer to 8 hours so we are going to be paying around $1,600 for this move.
Right there, our move is TWICE as much as what we were quoted and I can see the bait and switch happening right before my eyes. There’s no way that you would under bid a move by THAT much HONESTLY!
I told my husband that I can tell they are a dishonest company at this point because they low-balled the quote because once they have our stuff, they hold all the power to screw us out of money or they will take our stuff and hold it hostage.
We decided at this point that we would talk to the main guy in charge of our move, Sam and ask how long it was going to take to load up the rest of the house…Mind you at this point they had only loaded the small stuff, however a little over half the house was loaded up, all the big stuff was left (which is pretty quick to move – I’ve moved it all myself plenty of times).
I asked my husband to find out how much time it would take them to move everything they had left + our storage unit, as well as explain what we were quoted for this move.
Sam told him, with what’s left and the storage unit, about 4 more hours + told my husband that written on the paperwork he had, was a $3,000 quote. “YEAH? Where was that in writing to us?” We would’ve NEVER hired them for $3K, mark my words on that.
We agreed at this point that we were too far into what they had already loaded so we continued on with using them, assuming that it would only be 4 more hours and we would only have to pay another $1,280 to add to the $320 we had already paid…
Please note that at this time my husband had already called and talked to both RICK and TOBIAS (at the main phone number on the website) who told him there was nothing they could do about the fact that he was told a little over $800 for the quote and that we would just have to pay whatever it ended up being. They weren’t even willing to do the move with just one truck to help cut down the cost since we were lied to.
So once truck #1 was loaded they left and headed to the new house… Of course they “Got Lost” which we had to request time off our bill for, but they didn’t give it to us.
By time I showed up to the new house truck #1 was there, unloading and it was only ¼ of the way done. By this time it is 4:45pm and truck #2 still hasn’t shown up and it’s chock full of stuff as well.
Sam tells me that he just got of the phone with his boss and they are stopping the clock at 5:45PM whether they are done or not and that’s all I’ll have to pay, even if they aren’t done unloading because it has taken them so long.
He would not continue unloading until I paid, he just basically stood there with his hand out. At this time he was collecting $1,485.00 to add to the $320 that we had already paid.
I almost paid with my card that had more money on it, but at last minute I decided to switch to my account that if overcharged it would decline. I am very glad I did…
I transferred the money and paid the “what I thought was” $1,485…
When he brought the paperwork to me to sign, there was no total on it and I said to him, “There is no total on this and I need to know what it is I am signing for”
He said, “There will be a total on it once I get authorization” … I should’ve stopped right there and waited to sign it. But I didn’t want them to act all crazy and threaten to hold my stuff hostage.
Meanwhile, truck #2 FINALLY shows up, supposedly they were stuck in Tampa, traffic…Yet they could’ve gone over the skyway and bypassed ALL the rush hour traffic on a Friday at 530PM. So you tell me why they took the long way…
Anyways, after my credit card authorization, they went back to work unloading truck #1.
When truck #2 showed up, truck #1 was STILL ¼ of the way full and Sam’s phone rings.
He comes up to me and says “Your card was declined for $306” and I said, “What? I didn’t authorize $306, I authorized $1,485, so why are you running it for $306?”
He then proceeds to tell me that in order for them to finish unloading I have to pay for another hour and a half until 7:15PM since they didn’t finish in time….
This is where I get pissed and realize that this company is FULLY scamming innocent people out of their money because they can since they have all of their stuff.
When I told them verbatim what they said about the me paying the $1,485 and them stopping the time and not charging me anymore, he didn’t care, it was at that moment that I started to realize that Sam “Might Not be” oblivious to the lying and cheating his company was doing”.
I said “No, I am not paying it” and Sam said “Okay then we are locking the doors, taking your stuff to our storage facility and it’s going to cost you a whole lot more money to get it out”
So I HAD to pay or they were going to hold our stuff hostage until we did…
Meanwhile, the workers were playing all of this up like they had no idea that their company was running a scam… There was Sam, Nolan, Mike & Travis who did this move…
And we believed them at the time that they really didn’t realize their company was fraudulent charging people and leading them along.
I soon found out later that they were in on it, based off their actions.
At this point my mom was pissed because she had heard this whole thing and was standing there when they told me that the last charge was it.
She had them drop all our stuff (remember it was one FULL semi truck and ¼ of another) all in the driveway.
I had to help, my kids had to help (9 and 6 years old), we all had to help unload our stuff and we had paid over $2,000 into an $800 quoted move.
During this whole time, I was infuriated by the way I had been manipulated into paying them 2 ½ times what I was quoted…And all the workers (Nolan, Travis, Sam & Mike) were apologizing profusely about how we were mislead and being treated because Mike was also standing there and heard that $1,485 was ALL I was going to be charged for the rest of this move.
They all “supposedly” felt so bad that Sam, Nolan and Mike stated numerous times that they were going to come back and help us because “This just wasn’t right” and “they cannot believe their boss did that” and “They hate working for such a dishonest company”…
Well, guess what?
THEY NEVER CAME BACK TO HELP!
So here I was…My Mom…My Kids and My Husband…Moving 1 full semi truck and ¼ of another semi truck worth of stuff from the driveway to the garage all by ourselves after being scammed out of $2,050….PLUS I gave them $250 in tips!
That’s not all, HERE’S THE REAL KICKER…
When I checked my bank statement because I needed to get everyone food after starving all day and moving all this stuff…They had charged me $1,530, not $1,485 when they processed that first payment on my card.
I KNOW for a fact, that had I given them my card with more money on it, they would’ve kept charging us.
Luckily my mom had the sense to have them drop everything in the driveway so that would stop the clock and they wouldn’t keep screwing me out of money. I wish we would’ve though of that earlier, when truck #1 first got there. LESSON LEARNED!
That’s not all though, THERE”S MORE!
Because truck #2 did NOT pack well at all and because EVERY guy except Sam (based on what he said, which we both know none of their words is worth anything) was new, here’s the list of what was broken…
Let's start with the quote from Mr Mover. We had a 1200 square foot apartment. It had 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Mr Mover quoted us 4-6 hours with a charge of $189 up front and then an additional $89 per hour after that. Total estimate was around $520.
Bright and early on Saturday morning we scampered downstairs from our apartment with anticipation to meet our movers. They were slated to arrive at a prompt 8am. We were so excited to be moving from our apartment to our newly built house. Being first time home owners this was a momentous day for us. We started to get a little worried around 8:45am because the movers had yet to arrive. We called the dispatch office and they assured us that the movers were on their way and would be there at 9am. I truly wish more than anything in the world that we would’ve heeded this as a warning. If we would’ve listened to our gut feeling that morning we would’ve saved ourselves the worst consumer experience of our lives.
Our movers arrived at 9am. There were two other apartments in our building that were moving out on the same day. They had hired Two Men and a Truck for their moving services. Two Men and a Truck had brand new trucks with their logos adorned on the side and professional looking silver uniforms. This is what I envisioned our movers to look like. Instead Mr Movers provided an 18 year old criminal who smelled as if he hadn’t showered in at least a week. Duncan was wearing stained baggy jeans, and a Korn tee-shirt. The truck they arrived in had no logo on the side and had smoke coming out of the exhaust pipe. Upon entering our apartment to assess the situation Duncan stated “I just got out of jail and I haven’t eaten in 6 days” I kid you not when I say that this phrase came out of his mouth. We both just stood there appalled. After an awkward silence my partner offered him a doughnut that she had went out and purchased for the movers. Duncan then proceeds to cram 3 doughnuts into his mouth while walking around our apartment. Then Duncan says that we were supposed to take apart our beds which much to our dismay we were told when we inquired about this earlier that the movers would take care of it. Duncan also stated at this time that it would “take them longer” to disassemble the beds. He then asked if we wanted our furniture “bubble wrapped” The website boasts that everything is wrapped up when Mr Mover takes care of your move. In fact on the website there is a looping video that shows a fragile item being wrapped up for the move. When we asked what he meant by “bubble wrapped” he told us that if we elected to have them wrap our items that this would also take more time and therefore costs more money. Of course we decided to have them wrap our items. How much more time could it take really?
My partner left at this point so that she could be at the house for a delivery. I stayed with Duncan and the other mover. It quickly became apparent that I had a big problem. Duncan kept wandering around the apartment not doing anything while his partner went downstairs to load the truck. I am not going to bore you with the description of the next 9 HOURS but let me say this – We called the dispatch office 5 times to complain about the amount of time it was taking the movers. At one point around 4pm when we were still looking at another 2 hours for Mr Movers to be finished loading our 2 BEDROOM APARTMENT I was demanding a full refund. I have never in my 34 years of life on this planet seen such complete and total lack of work ethic, basic hygiene(this kid smelled like he just crawled out of a sewer), and utter disregard for doing even the basics of what was in our agreement for service. In total for 1200 square feet of space it took Duncan and Mr Mover 10 hours to wrap and load. Let me remind you at this point our original estimate was for 3-5 hours. Even say we had one extra bedroom we didn’t report? Would the quote still be so miscalculated? It was literally double the original estimate..
Duncan and Mr Mover finally arrived at our new house at 6:30pm. The company had heard us complaining all day so I guess they called Duncan and let him know that we were very displeased with how the move was progressing. The next piece of the story is extremely disturbing – please read at your own risk.
We had called dispatch again when the movers arrived and asked for the price of the move seeing as we had not received nearly anything we were promised. Fernando from dispatch informed us that the new quote was $1800!!!!!!!!!!!! We told Fernando that this is not how estimates work. You cannot recalculate a quote in the middle of the service. This was at the end of a very hot and grueling day. It was nearly 7pm and the movers still had not even removed our items from the truck. Duncan then informed us that he was going to hold our stuff hostage until we got confirmation from his boss that we had paid in full!!!! I didn’t know we were dealing with the GD mafia! Duncan is lucky that I wasn’t here for this particular exchange – let’s just say it wouldn’t have ended well for sewer boy.
We talked some sense into Fernando and got him to come down to $950. This including the $189 dollars we gave up front. Fernando told Duncan to “hurry and finish the job under the hour” So there was NO CARE taken in making sure our furniture made it off the truck safely. In fact I heard my partner out in garage screaming at them to be careful with our items. But the icing on this poop cake is this – The one item we made sure to ask Duncan about wrapping is our mattress. This isn’t just a normal mattress this is my partner and I pride possession. Our mattress was lying UN-WRAPPED on the DIRTY, NASTY, floor of the truck. OUR MATTRESS!!!!!! ON THE DIRTY FLOOR!!!!! That’s it.. The last freaking straw for me.
Duncan finished carelessly throwing our furniture in our house. At this point I just wanted him and his stank out of our house. So we were helping him move stuff in.
Are you ready for a somewhat happy ending? Duncan left in waft of urine and poop smell and we promptly called our credit company and stopped payment on their service. The credit company fully backed us in the decision. Guess ‘ol Duncan isn’t getting paid for the crap job he did!!
