More Leads, LLC called me and offered assistance in helping me find quality leads (clients) for my new law practice. I spoke with the rep on a couple of occasions and we discussed, in detail, that I had been burned by other such advertising companies and I was hesitant to spend any more money (money that I didn't have as a new business owner). My rep explained that because they advertised in print, media and on the radio that they received many calls for legal representation. What made them better than their competitors is that when a lead calls in, they "pre-screen" them for me, so the only actual calls I get are the people who are seriously interested in hiring an attorney and have the money to pay for one. The fees they charge per lead go toward weeding out the clients who are just looking for free legal advice and are thereby saving me the hassle. Because I was so hesitant in signing up with them, the rep emailed me a reduced offer as an incentive for me to join...with the understanding that it was a month to month contract and I could cancel the contract at any time. She and I also discussed in great detail the fact that once they sent me a lead, their fee would be deducted from my deposit, however, if I chose not to take the case or the lead did not hire me, I still had to pay the fee (it was non-refundable). That was unappealing in and of itself, however, I was assured that I would receive "so many leads" that bad leads were rare and the other 11 leads of the month would pay for any minor losses such as those.
After reviewing and revising the contract they sent over, I paid my deposit of $1750....$250 set up fee and then $1500 to cover 12 leads over the course of one month. However, I never received a SINGLE phone call or lead from them in 6 weeks...I complained, but was told that I just needed to be patient. I decided to cancel my contract right then...as I felt they were not honoring their end of the agreement, and requested a refund of my $1500...not the $250 set up fee...I was willing to let that go because I am a nice person. More Leads has refused to refund ANY of my money and states that their contract provides that they do not give refunds. I explained that my interpretation of their generic "no refund" policy was only applicable to leads that didn't pan out....not for failing to provide ANY leads whatsoever!! Despite my efforts to reason with them, they would not budge and I feel completely ripped off. Only after I filed a lawsuit against them for my ENTIRE refund did they offer me a settlement of $1000, but how could I accept after I had to pay $75 to file the suit just to get them to take me seriously? They are in breach of their contract and you would think they would be so embarassed (that they suck at finding leads), they would want to give me my deposit back (minus the set up fee). Even as an attorney, I am still amazed at how dishonest and deceitful humans can be, it is just sad.
