Modern Forwarding is a very small semi-legitimate trucking company in Windsor, Ontario. This company has a few contaracts hauling auto parts and empty bottles. This small business is owned by Marilyn Verbeem and her son, Chris Verbeem. These two exploit and take advantage of new, inexperienced drivers who are newly licenced.
Customer service: Customers have no access to contacting this company other then by phone, and when they call, they are treated poorly by the clueless and not properly trained dispatch employees. These employees never know when their work day will end, which brings out their frustration. Modern Forwarding offers cheap rates to the customers to compensate this.
Equipment: Modern Forwarding has a fleet of five 2005 Mack day cabs and about 12 International ProStar day cabs. The units are not properly maintained as they do not have a licensed mechanic on site, and as a result, drivers have had accidents due to faulty brakes, etc. Trailers are mostly rentals.
Terminal: The building they are using on-site is being used as a diesel mechanic shop, and a dispatch office, poses a huge health and safety hazard. Employees are getting sick while working, adding to their everyday stress level.
Pay: The owners of the business do the payroll. Pay stubs do not include hours worked as they are done on a home computer. Pay is always at least 6 hours short every week. This business does not pay overtime or vacation pay, both of which are required by law.
Filing this report is not out of revenge or spite or the fact that I am a former disgruntled employee. If this company would just fix their mistakes I have noted, they will get on track to success. If not, I would like to see this company shut down as soon as possible.
