The website www.modelmayhem.com is supposed to be about modeling and photography. It is that, but its management also purposely allows images to be posted which glorify violence against women and racist lynching.

An image of a black woman being lynched was posted in an onsite photo contest on 10/16/14. It is attached. The image was reviewed and approved by a site "moderator" before going live.

When I posted an outraged objection to the image, my objection was quickly taken down by another moderator and I was threatened with removal from the site for "rule violation"

ModelMayhem.com has a lot of rules concerning nudity and sexual content of images. It appears to have no rules regarding images that promote violence against women or which degrade members of a particular race. The behavior of the site administration in approving the lynching photo and squelching my objection to it shows that this isn’t just the aberrant act of some rogue user. Rather, it reflects a corporte/site policy to tolerate images of violence and racial degradation.

I hope you will help me expose this bogus website for what it is.

My objection:

This very disturbing and racist image passed moderation and was posted in a contest. Who the hell is in charge here?

I was thinking about using ModelMayhem.com to further my modeling career. Then I saw an expose of the dark inner workings on the MM site (report 1200293) and wasn’t so sure any more.

I decided to carry out a little experiment. I opened up a model profile using my personal email as "Torri Tomboy". Many photographers promptly messaged me wanting to shoot. One wanted to do "POV".

Then I posted a discussion thread in the ‘Site Related Forum" titled, "Beneath the Surface". I pasted in the text of review #1200293 and asked that there be an open discussion regarding the truth of what was said.

Brian Diaz, one of the "Admins", actually posted to the thread with a self-serving oh-poo-poo response. I threw in an additional (true) detail that I had been introduced to a SF Bay area moderator named Alan who had bragged openly he could make people disappear off the site. After being told such moderator behavior was unacceptable I gave Alan’s MM ID to the admin in a private message.

Three days later, the funniest thing happened. My MM account was terminated!

This is much like the people in Russia who criticize Putin and get sent to Siberia or are accidentally murdered a week later. As far as I know, Alan is still moderator, though I also know he was recently forced to close his studio.

Models! Don’t go near this site!

"Mayhem" means a life-diminishing injury like putting out an eye or severing a hand.

Despite the dark connotation of its name, Model Mayhem presents on the surface as a lighthearted, informal place for models and photographers. Scratch that surface and you find North Korea in microcosm. I know someone on the inside. With the aid of a few free drinks, I have learned many disturbing truths about this site.

Users are the subject of FBI-style dossiers written by self-appointed "moderators" and killer "admins". None of this is disclosed to those users. The gruppenfuherer Admin is Dean Johnson, a man with a history of rudeness and disrespect for his peers. He hides in Minneapolis. Johnson and other admins remain anonymous and communicate their messages of death using a black logo that has a curious resemblance to the ISIS terror banner.

The "mods" often rely on outside gossip taken from Internet scandal sites to target photographers. Photos that displease the mods are noted like prior arrests under a three strikes law. Some of the site "rules" are unknown - one user was canned because he uploaded 4 public domain photos of animals and the mods treated that as equivalent to stealing someone’s copyrighted pictures.

The list never expires. When someone accumulates enough demerits, they are summarily canned without warning. Portfolios that took years of work and thousands of dollars to build are erased with a single mouse click. There is no appeal from the death sentence; any complaint is met by an insulting rebuke.

Continuing with the "secret police" approach to users, a skilled technical staff searches through ISP data, metadata from pictures and private messages to sniff out and eliminate persons on their significantly-sized enemies list. All in all, it’s just no fun at all.

This site needs to be taken down and restarted from scratch. Until it is, I would avoid it like the plague.

I had a horrific photoshoot with a photographer I met who is also a member of MM (ModelMayhem), who it turns out is also a "MOD" on their site. A "MOD" is a select group of members who act as gatekeepers on the site. Through out the shoot this "photographer" was overly flitatious, hinting about getting drinks after the shoot, telling me the things he would do to me if I was his girl, etc. VERY CREEPY! I had agreed to shoot some swimwear with this member, who took some decent images, BUT also took some shots of accidental nipple slips and a couple where my bathing suit wasn't adjusted and you could see parts my nana, when I saw these I asked him to delete the images from his camera, he said "NO" and that he was going to post them on MM anyways because they looked sexy! I said that that was just wrong and he said "tough titty" that he could make me disappear from MM if I made too much trouble. I ended the shoot and then he said if I didn't agree to continue the shoot, he would post he pictures I was opposed to AND I would never see any pictures from him. He was basically holding my pictures hostage!!! I took a day off from work, hired a baby sitter, etc, just to make time to shoot with him! And I got screwed. He contacted me later that day and said if I gave him "head" he would give me my pictures!

Went to his ranch to shoot. He calls it the "Monaco Palace." Was shooting outside. I told him I had to pee. He asked me to do it there so he could take pictures. Enough said. It is hella sick that people are finally outing him. Dude's a total creeper.
