MISSIONHILL PERSIANS & EXOTICS

I would not hesitate to recommend purchase of cats from this cattery – they are healthy, well socialized, and in good condition. The cattery is an exceptional example of a well designed, well cared for facility that meets and exceeds cattery standards of the Canadian Veterinary Medical Association, as well as the Cat Fancier’s Association.

I certify that Missionhill Persians &Exotics complies with and exceeds the requirements of CFA’s Cattery Standards to qualify for a CATTERY OF EXCELLENCE.

The standards include the following:

1. The cattery is physically connected to the private residence, is structurally sound and is maintainted in good repair to protect the cats from injury and overexposure to the elements and restricts the entrance of other animals.

2. There are seven floor to ceiling enclosures constructed of PVC covered meshing, ranging in size from 9’H x 7’W x 6’L to 9’H x 8’W x 6’L.

3. Top quality soft food, raw as well as canned, is fed twice a day and dry food is available at all times. Fresh water is available at all times and the containers are washed twice a day. Food and water dishes are kept separate from each other and located at a distance from the litter boxes.

4. Litter boxes are placed throughout the house and cattery and are cleaned twice a day. They are washed and sanitized frequently.

5. Supplies of food, bedding and interior building surfaces are maintained in a sanitary manner.

6. Food is transported, handled and stored in a manner that ensures against the introduction of parasites, disease vectors (such as insects) and chemical contaminants. Supplies of food are stored in an area that is cool, dry and free of vermin and other potential contaminants. Refrigeration is provided for supplies of perishable food.

7. The facility is adequately heated and cooled to protect the cats from excessive cold and heat and a built-in air exchanger helps to keep the cattery fresh and free of odours. The ambient temperature is maintained in a range that ensures that the cats are comfortable at all times.

8. The facility is provided with a source of fresh air by means of windows, doors and vents and is ventilated in a manner that minimizes drafts, odors and moisture conditions.

9. The facility has ample light of good quality by natural and artificial means. The lighting provides uniformly distributed illumination to permit routine inspection, cleaning and provide for the well-being of the cats. The cats are protected from excessive illumination.

10. There is sufficient shade to allow cats to shelter from the direct rays of the sun.

11. There is a separate room attached to the main cattery for bathing and grooming the cats.12. When cats spend time in an enclosed outdoor facility there is access to shade and shelter to allow them to remain cool and dry at all times.

13. Any cats showing illness or disease are given prompt veterinary attention.

14. All cats and kittens are vaccinated under veterinary advice.

15. The cats are groomed and bathed regularly and do not have any mats in their coats.

16. The cats are extremely well treated and given plenty of social time. The majority run free in the house and only breeding males are confined to the cattery on a permanent basis.

I purchased my kitten from Munira Murrey, in her home, in December of 2013. Upon purshasing I signed a 2 yr health guarentee for my kitten for any diseases. The next day after bringing my kitten home I emailed Munira about my cat's eye

Hi munira,

Just a quick question, Louis's eyes are watering quite a bit is this normal or is there something I can do? Thank you

She replied.Dear Kirsten,

Persians with large eyes and short noses tear more than cats with small eyes. Louis’ eyes don’t water excessively but if they are watering more than usual it is most likely due to the stress of moving - which is extremely common. As long as it is just tearing and there is no mucous or redness in the eye there is no need to use any antibiotics since he does not have an eye infection. Many kittens also sneeze when they first move to a new home so if he starts sneezing within the next few days this is also normal and nothing to worry about. It is no different to a kid getting a cold. He will get over all the initial stresses within a couple of weeks. You don’t have to do anything about it - just wait until he gets over it.

I wash around my cats’ eyes once a day with a piece of cosmetic pad (cut into quarters) or a small piece of paper towel, dipped in very warm water. Dry with another piece of cosmetic pad or paper towel and this will prevent any tear stains build up on the fur below the eyes. White dogs, such as Poodles, Maltese and Bichons are also prone to staining under the eyes and vets prescribe tetracycline for this problem. I don’t think Louis’ tearing is from an eye infection - more because of his large eyes and short nose and hopefully it will get less as he settles into his new home.
