Refused to set due dates to one that is not abusive to me, then refuse to change it for one year. charges late charge even though all payments were three to four times the minimum payment. Criminal and fraudulent charges. Don't patrinize this company or due so at your risk. actually bad for you if you are trying to repAir your credit.
Merrick Bank claims I was late because I added and additional payment of $300.00 on an account that had a balance of $382.85. Of the remaining balance of $82.85, I was billed $70.00 (twice normal of the regular $35.000 because the extra payment of $300.00 was recieved before the next bill came out, they claimed I was late!
Time line: Prior to Nov. 2014 card had 0.00 bal, then used. 12/2014, billed $35.00, paid $100.00 leaving balance of $382.85. 01/28/15, $300.00 paid towards balance. Payment arrives prior to bill being sent out, Merrick files my payment as "late" and doubles my $35.00 payment to $70.00, however the bill states the $70.00 is not due until 03/23/2015.
My "Go-Score" drops from 734 to 722 for paying a day or two EARLY by my credit union's web site. Now I have paid the balancei n full, printed out complease copies in the event the state attorney and credit unions will need them once I file a complaint with them.
I will keep a zero balance and lock the card away, as cancelling the card may have a negitive effect on my FICO score. Beware, the phone help at Merrick Bank is hostle, mean and sassy, espaecially Malinda that claims to work out of NY state.
Merrick Bank is a criminal collection agency hiding under the guise of a respectable bank. It initially pretends to be supportive and customer-friendly, claiming that it can help you rebuild your credit, etc, and as soon as they have you, they are applying fees, and so-called late fees. The day these are posted, collection calls begin-- at your home, job, and cell-- at all times of day and night.
I have paid over $80 for nothing-- the yearly fee and the inevitable late fee that was never late-- and they know I cannot prove this BUT neither can they prove payment was late. I keep trying to close this nightmare account and get away from these thugs, but they are pursuing me night and day for $3 they charged me off a zero balance-- and they are calling day and night for this $3 mocking me, and being loud and rude. Truly feel that I have been assaulted and robbed by this slick bully of a bank.
Am a senior planning a trip to see grandchildren and thought I could trust and rely on this bank. Am so ashamed that I have been used by this bank that I am keeping the whole affair from my grown children. STAY AWAY FROM THE THIEVES AT MERRICK BANK!!!
I had a Merrick Bank credit card in which I fell behind a few payments. To catch up on my payments I made a payment while talking to one of the Merrick Bank agents on the phone. He told me that my account was stilll open and that the funds will be available for me to use after my payment was done and he gave me a discount on my late fees too.
So after I made the payment I waited a few days for the payment to show on my account and have the funds available for me use.
The payment never was available so I called Merrick Bank and was told that my account was closed because of the late payment.
I then told them that the agent that received the payment from me told me that my account was open and current on all monthly payments.
The agent that I was talking to then told me that there is nothing that she could do because my account was closed even though she could see on her system that I made the payment and brought my account current.
She then put me on the phone with a admin and I was told that they could ask that my account be reviewed and maybe my accont could be reactivated...this did not happen and I was denied.
So 2 months later I start getting phone calls from Merrick Bank asking me when I was going to be able to make my monthly payment because I was accruing late fees.
I asked the agent why am I being charged late fees when my account is closed...I should only have to pay the rest of what my is owed on my card.
The agent told me that according to their policy that they can still charge me a late fee every month until I pay off what is owed on my card.
So I want to know how can Merrick Bank close my account, but still charge me a monthly late fee?????
She continued to ask me to make a payment and I told her no because they should have sent me to a collection agency and her reply was the my accoiunt is in their Merrick Bank Collections Office.
This does not seem right to me because any other place would have sent me to collections and then I would have to just deal with what is owed without getting a monthly late fee added on to the card balance.
So can anyone tell me how Merrick Bank can do this and if it is legal?
