My son and his pregnant fiancee were visiting for a few days in mid-April. We are fairly new to the Fountain Parke community and apparently not aware of the parking rules. So when my son parked his car just outside our garage he received a note warning him that his car was missing the appropriate decal to be parked on the premises. Our own car which had the decal that allows us into the community was parked on the street in the mean time. So, after reading the note that was posted on my son's car we put the same decal our own car had which had allowed us trouble free parking during my son's visit and in the past when we had friends visiting and we'd allow them to park in our garage to avoid parking issues.
After attaching the extra decal we had on my son's car, I called Amy to make sure that it was not going to be a problem if the car stayed immobile for a couple of days because my son had to drive with his fiancee back to St. Petersburg because she was not feeling well. Amy assured me that she would talk to the parking responsible. At 10:02pm that same night, about 7 hours after our conversation with Amy the car was towed by Sanford Towing apparently after police had had cleared it.
When, obviously irritated, I called Amy next afternoon, when I discovered that the car was missing her excuse was that she had reported our conversation but that it was up to the parking committee to decide what to do. She eventually hang up on me because she did not like the tone of my voice. When I called back some other male employee answered and gave me the wrong name and number of a towing company which turns out that they had lost the contract with Melrose Management about a year ago.
My son had to rush up to Lake Mary so that we could make it to Sanford Towing before 5:00pm when they close. $252 later and many hours wasted and frustration my son is back at St. Petersburg and I am left with this bitter feeling about the wisdom of my choice to buy into a community with HOA.
My son, in the meantime, is all excited about his research turning up some interesting links between Melrose and Sanford Towing. Hopefully, there will be an update to this report ;)
