I was stopped at a light yesterday evening and two guys in a gold f-150 got me to pull over and said they were trying to get rid of some home theatre equipment that was brand new and supposedly worth 10k. I was in a hurry and just gave them $460 without really looking at the system. Well the system is crap it is a lennox ln-70 sound system and a synergy pro6100 projector. They are two in shape clean cut guys that can really sell. One of them claimed to work out at the 24hr in clearlake his name was Jeremy.
Two guys pulled up next to my car and asked if I wanted a ""free home theater system"". They were convincing that they had an install out in Katy and needed to ""give away"" a home theater system. They said they would pull over so I could take a look at the system. Upon pulling over they said the system was worth $9000. Then I said I had no use for the system. Upon hearing this the one got real pushy. I said the only item that interested me was the sound unit. Then the other guy got real pushy and said how much can you give me for it. I beong stupid and gullable said a couple hundred dollars. At that point I had bought the equipment.
The two were dressed in polos. They were driving a gold Ford F150. They were looking for places to stop where ATMS we r e and I could tell after they had done this before. It was stupid and I should have listened to my gut. Momma always said you shoukd not talk to strangers.
Same scam, which I have learned to be known as the "White Van Speaker Scam"....two mid 40s white guys in yes a white mini van..same spiel...NC plates . Approached in Lowes parking lot West Ashley, Charleston, SC...claimed to be AV delivery guys w/ "extra" equip from a job....and yes they knew the atm locations as well....I dumb A%$#%$ed and fell for it after seeing the MSRP of $ 3,299 printed on the box...basically what the equipment is are false Chinese goods w/ false labeling...but as I learned after calling the sheriff dept is that no crime was technically committed, because I fell for the purchase (I provided the Tag no's)...so "Lennox" has a website: http://lennoxaudio.com/site/
And yes, the equipment, albeit functional, is the quality of a dollar store garden nozzle...my existing $24 altec speakers sound better...and I got suckered for $300...so live and learn...don't fall for the cheap electronics in the parking lot scam...
