My wife and I were eating at the McDonalds at the travel plaza on the New York State Thruway in Angola, NY when we saw a mentally handicapped person being led through the dining room by his caretaker, presumably headed toward the restroom. All of a sudden the handicapped person groaned and made a funny face just before he walked past our booth. He kept going toward the restroom, led by his caretaker, but my wife looked at the floor after he was gone and noticed with disgust that there were chunks of fecal matter on the floor in a little trail where the handicapped person had been walking.
In addition to this I began to notice an unpleasant odor shortly thereafter which was unmistakable. Other customers noticed this as well, and to our disgust some customers were unwittingly walking through the excrement and tracking it across the floor of the dining room with their shoes. The dining room was packed since it was around the middle of the day and people were stopping in for lunch.
I got up from out booth and got a manager's attention, which was difficult enough since there were long lines of customers who were being waited on. I informed her about what had happened and she said something along the lines of "we're really busy right now, i'll try to get someone out there ASAP to clean up the mess." I went back to the dining room and tried to finish eating but I just couldn't.
The smell was nauseating and my wife couldn't eat either. We got up and moved to the farthest empty table from the mess and hoped our appetites would come back. We waited for about ten minutes but no one came out to clean up the mess. Amazingly, people were still walking through it obliviously and tracking it all over the dining room. How could they not see or smell what it was?
Finally, disgusted, my wife and I threw our food away and we both went to the counter to talk to the manager again. The manager rudely yelled at us, "I understand there's a mess but we just don't have anyone extra who can go out there right now! Don't you see how busy we are? You're not the only people who have told us about this problem. We're working on it, ok?" That's when my wife and I decided that if that's the kind of importance McDonalds places on food hygiene and public health, we would never visit McDonalds, let alone that particular location, ever again.
Im a little tight on my money at this time because of the economy., i had very little money left before the day i get paid,so i have to cut corners. Long story short, I ordered 2 mcDoubles total at the Drivethru, menu price is $1.19. Since theres no sales tax on food, the total comes to $2.38. For some reason i had an inkling that i would get charged more. Well I come up to pay and wallah, I was correct...she said $2.58 sir...my reply is as said..$1.19 x 2 =$2.38. The lady at window was not mean or anything until she rolled her eyes...and said let me get someone in a smart aleck tone. Dont know if this is the Mgr or not She comes to the window tells the same thing and adds that the prices are subject to change.....Keep in mind as with everyone who works...we are all on a time slot...this is our lunchbreak. I dont have time to argue, so I disappointly gave in to the $2.58. My thinking is how items on that menu are incorrect ! Thats what Id like to know. This may Seem petty to some...but I think this Corporation makes enough money without Ripping off the Public. My advice when ordering...check it before you purchase it; and dont let them talk you out of it like Id be done too !
