Matt McRae, as Makpar Construction, contracted with us to do the framing, roofing, interior carpentry trim and cabinetry for our custom home. He failed to complete any of the work for which he was contracted, and left many men unpaid for work that they did on my job.
He under ordered material while charging me the full amount and took a $22,500.00 deposit for the cabinets which he never intended to provide, claiming that his cabinet maker was running behind, then asking for the full amount to provide nothing. At one point he vandalized our project, pretending that someone else did the deed, so he could charge us for the cleanup and repair work.
When I threatened to go to Reno and find the cabinet maker, McRae fled the project, leaving every single level of the contracted work unfinished. By this time, I found out that McRae had done this same type of thing to several other people in our area and was being sued by the Registrar of Contractors.
We sued him through the Registar as well and were awarded $32,000.00 in damages for which he must repay us at the rate of $200.00 a month! At that rate it will be 15 years before we recover even that small portion of the money he stole from us.
Further investigation revealed that McRae had never contracted with a cabinet maker, but simply took the $22,500.00 deposit and pocketed it. McRae's scam cost us upwards of $90,000.00 in lost labor, materials and equipment. We have followed McRae's scamming to North Dakota where he has continued to rip off people at an alarming rate. This man is an absolute con artist, theif and a liar ofthe first water. He shouldbe in jail.
