DO NOT use this compnay for any type of loan.I wish i had read the rip off report and checked the BBB before working with this company, who by the way IS NOT accredited with the BBB.
In June of 2014 i got a loan through them for $3,000 to cover the rest of my wedding expenses. Being told i would not be charged finance charges or a penalty for paying it off early. I realized AFTER the paperwork was signed and they went over the small print, by the end of 36 payments i would have basically paid them back twice what i borrowed, so i knew i had to get this paid off fast.. especially since they also put a lien on my truck.
Today, March 20th 2015, after paying so far a total of $1,357 on the loan so far, i called to get my pay off balance.Which not only were they trying to talk me out of not paying it off, but adding to it.
The lady told me it was $3,047.58.. i laughed and said thats more than what my orignal loan was, there has to be a mistake.
She tells me i borrowed $4,000.. I pulled out all my papers and told her no, the loan was for $4,000. and told me to look for a specific paper in the 50 paper stack they gave me. a piece of paper that was not gone over the day of the loan saying the principle loan was like $4,500 because they put full coverage on my car, and life insurance on me and i have to pay for that, without my knowledge.
Legally, stealing peoples hard earned money..i highly reccomend you warn everyone not to deal with this company, no matter how desperate they are. Go to lending club.
I am so livid, and mad at myself for not researching them first when i know better.
Expensive lesson learned
I financed a "same as cash" loan through Mariner Finance for an HVAC that I purchased last year. I was told that if I paid off the loan within one year I would not be charged any fees. I was not sent a payment book, and there is no way to track your balance online. Therefore, I divided the balance that I owed into 12 even payments, and had my bank send it over to them on a regular schedule. When I had a balance of $100 left according to my own records, I tracked down their contact information online and called to see if they were planning to send me any verification that the loan had been paid in full, once I had made the final payment. --It turned out that I would have needed to pay the entire balance two months earlier than I actually did (i.e., they started counting their "year" 2 months earlier than my loan payments had begun.) Because of this, they charged me 10% interest for the entire year of the loan--an additional $200 in interest added to the cost of the loan! This should be illegal. In this day and age, lenders should be forced to allow borrowers to view their loan balances online so that they can avoid predatory lending practices and fees. I will never use this company again, and strongly recommend that others avoid them as well.
I have found that mariner finance employs people who are unethical, poor customer service, not reliable an untruthful.
Since May of this year I had hoped to work with them regarding a loan but they have not returned calls, given poor advice an caused opportunity for me to better my loan situation with them.
They have blocked ways for me to try to be able to work out the payment of my loan. I advised them in may of medical surgeries an asked to only lower my payments so I could pay them an medical bills.
They refused an to this day have blocked an not tried to work with me in any way. I will never deal with mariner again for any reason.
There customer phone contact is appalling. I have been hung up on an spoken to with such arrogance. Even though I did sign contract they r truly rip off artists. Their way of charging interest is unbelievable.
A very poor company to deal with an their employees leave a lot to be desired. I give them a -0.
Have no idea who they are or where they came from but they pulled $91.00 from my checking account and i also got an NSF fee from the bank, filed bbb complaint and attorney general complaint, never heard of this company before today
Mariner Finance is apart of First Mariner Bank in Baltimore Maryland. They are in the business of buying loans from other originators and servicing these loans. They will also send out loans in the form of a check mailed to your address. Before you cash this check make sure that you understand all the interest charges and late fees and make informed decision. Because you may not have positive experience with this bank. This Bank is very quick to file for Judgement and Restrain your bank account or garnish your wages. I remember paying the Account current and a surprise Letter arrives that I have a judgement against me. Of course I dont go to the hearing because I'm thinking I just paid it current. Though the loan has no early payoff penalty, The loan is actually written in such way that it would be considered to be a predatory loan. Why would someone else mail you a check and hope that you cash it. They are counting on this and that you will make your mistakes along the way. If you make all payment a few days late, Surprise Surprise, When you think you have paid this loan off and call to settle you may not like what you are told what is still owed. Of coures If you are one of those people who never make a mistake..... You have been warned.
Mariner Finance is NOT a part of First Mariner Bank. They are two separate financial institutions with no connection to each other. Mariner Finance issues loan checks from Bank of America.
Unfortunately this company is in the business of making predatory loans. they send checks out to individuals with bad credit to try and "build up" credit. I received one of these checks and was stupid and desparate to actually cash it. The interest rates areourageous and if you fall behind, they will call and harrass you and your family members many times a day. They threaten to sue you and garnish your wages. And to top it all off it does NOTHING to build up your credit. I would never do business with or recommend them to anyone.
