Well they're back those directory scam calls that have been around since 2007. This company has renamed ittself and popped up as LKWD, localkeyworddirectory. They have starterd cold calling businesses across Canada. They will call your business (Montreal area code, or a toll free service on call display) and tell you the call is being recorded (step one of the scam).
They will then say they need to verify your business listing (They clearly searched you out from google as they have your address, url, phone numbers in front of them. The second part of the scam is you assume it's canpages or yellow pages. Why else would some no name comapny be calling to confirm you. Once they say your business information they then say you are signed up for two years and will send you a bill for $695.
When you say you never signed up for anything this is the next part of the scam. They say your voice is recorded agreeing for the listing. Which is false. Furthermore a verbal "YES" when you verify your business information is not agreeing to their scam. It must be a WRITTEN contract. They say the bill is in the mail in 2 weeks.
When you refuse to pay they will claim they have a recording of you agreeing to their bogus listing service and SEO crap. To bad they heavily edit the file to make it sound like you agree to a bunch of stuff by splicing the audio to their liking. When you tell them i am not paying they try yet another trick to the scam pay 50% because of all the work they did.
Which entails taking ONE picture from your website, a URL, phone number, and an about your business page from your own website copy an pasted. they will post it on their facebook page, and send out a tweet. Also suck onto their google analytic from your URL as it's their site. They will mark it up with fake clicks like they're getting attention from their work. An entire 3 minutes or less to copy and paste everything to their scam website is worth $700 don't think so. Technically they're using images and data without your consent which is copyriight infringement.
When they feel you won't pay a month could roll by then it's fake letters from a lawyer threatening you to pay them. Again it's all part of their SCAM to make you pay anything. Operating under another company name a female working for them was extridiated to the USA and charged with fraud. For the same scheme which now is part of local keyword directory. This business is so legit they collect mail from a post office box in a local drug store there. For such a big company you know they all get mail at a PO Box right. Well i guess the UPS store was to expensive to rent a box as a front. Considering they use the drugstore as their "business" location.
Scum like this deserves all the bad press they can get. Sooner or later the RCMP or local cops will shut these con job crooks down for good.
I am in the middle of their harassing phone calls, faxes and letters. Canadian Anti-Fraud Center told me to send them a Registered Letter telling them I would not accept anymore correspondence from them, but they just keep on harassing me.
