Reached a hindu man who called himself "Aldrin Taylor". He seemed concerned with my problem. Said, "do not worry, I am here to help you with that."
He informed me that his company, Line Technician, has partnered with Microsoft because, " there is no way that Microsoft can possibly address all of the customer concerns they have." He had me help him sign into my computer with the assist program. He proceeded to hop ALL through my computer showing me all of the things that were wrong, "don't worry, we're going to fix all of your problems, that's what we're here for.
All the while telling me about, " hackers and how they don't work and that is all they have to do all day...steal bank account numbers, social security numbers, bank account numbers, etc, etc. "
"Do you see this? and this?" What's this?" That's my email, I said. He was showing me that there wasn't anywhere that he couldn't access.
Then it hit me when he said, "We're going to fix this and this and this for free...and to fix this.......there will be some charges." How much, I asked. Anywhere from 2 to 5 hundred dollars.
Oh, I get it! You're the virus! It's YOU holding my computer and personal information for ransom!! You are the hacker!
He was protesting all the while when I said that I had to contact some people and get back to him. He immediately erased all of the info that he had brought up on the screen, but I had managed to save another telephone number that was supposed to be his direct number. After several attempts to reach him at that number , someone who sounded just like him said that there were several people working there with that same name!
I did warn them of my intentions.
He remained signed into my computer, and I am sure that my identity is going to be hijacked. I need an attorney and the telephone number to the FBI.
I am writing this report because my computer is ruined and I can't get these people to help. A pop-up on my new Dell computer with windows 8.1 informed me that I had some malware in my computer, since I could not eliminate it myself I called the number on my computer screen. It was difficult to understand the technician very well due to his foreign accent. He took over my computer and installed some softwareand informed me that I had to pay $349.99 which informed him I could not afford so he gave me a senior discount then I was told that my emails had been hacked and were being attacked in Mexico. Individuals were using my email address for scams! After working on my computer for quite awhile they notified me that everything was corrected.
About two weeks later another pop up showed up saying my drivers were seriously out of date and to call this number to update them. Well, trying to keep my computer up to date, I called the number and spoke to a man who sounded very much like the man I had spoken to before. I gave him my information and he said not to worry he will fix everything. I thought I was dealing with the same company I was dealing with before. . .not so. He came back and said he had updated all of my drivers and. . .surprise surprise. . .for only $300 he could fix all of the multitude of problems in my computer including my hacked email address. I told him that he had just done that two weeks ago and was very surprised and put me on hold. He came back and said I wasn't on file as one of their customers. I said that the other people had said that everything was fixed and now you tell me everything isn't fixed. I told him I didn't know who to trust. He said that since I didn't trust him he was going to uninstall everything he had done and he hung up. It all happened so fast that I didn't get his name or even his company because I had thought it was the other company.
I called [email protected] and spoke to a man who suspiciously sounded exactly like the person I had just spoken to. I told him what had just happened and he had me click on some commands on my computer and said he would get back to me in about twenty minutes to make sure everything was good. Well after my computer finished doing "its thing" all but two of my personal files were lost, MicroSoft Office was no longer there, and everything previously pinned to my desktop toolbar were gone. He did call back and I told him what had happened he quickly took over my computer and installed an Office knock off called Apache which doesn't work at all as easy and MicroSoft does. The two files that were still there was because I had previously put them on my desktop as an icon and only one of them would open he said that the one that wouldn't open was because it was corrupted. I said that it had worked before and that I didn't believe it was corrupted but that it just would work with his "new" version of Office.
After unsuccessfullly trying that night to get my computer to at least respond to most of the original commands, I waited until the next morning and called them again. The computer voice said to hold and they would "try" to find a technician. I gurss the operative word is...try. No one ever came back. I hung up and waited about an hour and tried again. This time I got someone (sounded very familiar...hmmm) I told him what had happened and that I wanted either my computer back the way it was or a new computer with all the bells and whistles that mine had. He said that I should hang up and he would call me back in about twenty minutes (another very familiar phrase). It has now been over two hours and I have heard nothing.
I received a pop-up on my laptop stating that if I was a TimeWarner customer to call 1-877-759-5082 to disable pop-ups. I was connected to a technician with a heavy Indian accent, calling himself "Peter", who gained access into my laptop, and showed me several pages of "viruses", and persuaded me to purchase antivirus protection that would cover all technology in my home for $299, for a 2-year plan. He was in my computer, manipulating, and asking me to enter my name, address, debit card info, and he pulled up my email account and asked me to enter my password. Luckily, my bank would not process transaction, due to suspicion of fraud. I was confused as to who he worked for, and he never really told me the name of the company until the end of transaction. He wanted to stay on the line with me to contact my bank to tell them to put the payment through, but I told him that I would do it myself and contact him back. I looked on the internet, and SCAM came up. I called them back and said to cancel everything. I received a phone call from "Peter", asking if I had called the bank yet (from a private #), and I said that I was not going to, as I had canceled for fraud suspicion, and he tried to convince me that it was just my bank being cautious. I had to tell him several times that I was not interested.
This company came up when I googled for a number for Yahoo Customer Service, They tried to sell me $300 worth of security because they said my email account was being hacked by Russians.
I was having trouble with my email password and googled a number for Yahoo Customer Service. This was the first site that said it would solve problems with Yahoo's emails.
I first talked to an East Indian male named Sam. He told me my email was being hacked by Russians and Mexicans at that very minute. If I wasted time all of my personal data would be used for their personal gain. He said his techs would fix my problem immediately for $300.
During our conversation he managed to get me to give him my email password. I told him no way was I paying $300 to fix a free email service, and hung up.
In a matter of minutes another man named Sam called me back, appologized for his co-workers rudness, and offered to help. He asked for my moms maiden name so he could fix my problem and verify who I was. I told him now you can hack me, and he replied you are being hacked at this moment by someone in Richmond, Ca, (that was me), also in New York, and Chicago. I called him a crook and asked to speak to his supervisor. Put me on hold for 20 min. then Nelson Jonathon came to the phone and assured me that he would fix everything and I would be safe once again. Just $300 for the safety. When I refused to pay he said my email was not unusable, and that unless I pay up I would never get to my emails again.
He was right. I cant open my email with Google or Yahoo.
This is sheer misrepresentation, and blackmail. If you have a problem with your email don't talk to these guys, because as bad as your email problem is, they will surely make 100 times worse.
