On September 24th 2012 i used live-technician.com to help with Gmail and Facebook. Back then i had very little knowledge of the computer or internet. They charged me $100 dollars to remote access my computer. Now fast forward to June 18th 2015 they contact me telling me that my email is being hacked and used for some very illegal activity. The technician then asked if i could go to my computer or laptop. I told him i dont have either at the moment he then hung up on me. That got me to thinking so i did some research. Turns out im not the only one this has happened to. So i call 1-888-334-5804 the number for this live technician and did some inquiries. I was transferred to a "technician" who verified i was a customer with a id number told me my issues back then then verified they were out of las vegas Nevada. I then told the "technician" that i had been digging and found this very same company has been fraudulently doing this to others. I asked her point blank if this was a scam and was hung up on. I am concerned as to what they have access to because i have personal pictures..videos..and things of that nature on my computer. At the moment my computer has no internet but am not sure if they can still acess it. I would also like a refund on the $100 that i had spent.
Got involved with them unwittingly couple of years ago cost 2000 then realised something wrong and never contacted them again ...Now I grt a call from them and I said to cancel all my dealings with them and they said that will cost me $950 dollars to break my "contract" I told him where to go and he said they can get the money from my bank...
Hacked into gmail account, disabled email with link to solve the issue. Represented themselves as having a contract with apple for computer security and service. Callers' accents were of the indian subcontinent. Money required upfront for "apple preferred customer" status. "difficult problem" -> days pass. Ruse: need to refund money to my bank, then over-refund by several thousand. How to get the money back? Solution: through itunes gift card purchases, the numbers of which are transmitted to live technologies. Although a valid transaction, a call allegedly from itunes says that transaction denied and will need to be done again. And so it goes.
My PC suffered an attack whilst online, a message on my screen declared disaster, not to shut down but to call a freephone number for advice. This phone number took me straight to their technical help which convinced me to allow them to help me recover my pc. Warnings on screen & from them convinced me that I would lose all my important data if I did not agree. Naively I went ahead & gave them control of my pc. In the end they did clean up my PC using ccleaner etc, installed an adblocker & virus scanner. Charge was $599, subsequently reduced to $300 after various phone calls arguing over the suspicious initiation & cost of their 'help'.
So far my PC is working OK but with hindsight my advice is : switch it off & seek help locally.
I have just been had by same tricks. Whilst online a message on my screen declared disaster, not to shut down but to call a freecall number for advice.
I was told that I had serious virus infection, and eventually informed that it would cost £299/$428 to deal with the problem and provide 12 months cover. Despite serious doubts I agreed and passed control to Live Technologies Inc technicians.
At the time I was concerned as to what information they would obtain and the risk of a Trojan being planted rather than removed. Also the risk of exploiting my bank accounts.
So far I have had communication from them for three days checking that all is well, I don't know.
Although I am concerned I see no way of proving whether they did anything to my computer for good or otherwise. As a result regret that I have to write off the money paid to them, and to keep a watch on my accounts.
These "technicians" will comandeer your computer, and when you realize they are out to just get your money and data, and you cut them off, they will start harassing you, as they are harassing me with phone calls at odd hours. Repeteadly being told you want nothing to do with them they will increase the number of unwanted calls. (40 calls just last month) This has been going on for over a year now. I have reported them to the FTC, FBI, ATT and anybody else I can think of, but the calls keep coming. User Beware, Beware,Beware
