Received a phone call from this company and they stated that the call was from Pretrial Diversion. I s/w a woman who stated that they had felony charges pending against me and that I needed to turn myself in to the police and get an atty because I owed a payday loan company mondy back from 2012. I have never had a payday loan. I asked her for a number for the company and she gave me the website info and stated for me to contact them through their website. When I called the company they stated that they don't even service loans in the state of Ga. So there is no way that I have a payday loan and even if I owed that is not how they collect the loan. She stated that it was a scam. The woman called me back later and asked me did I s/w the company and I stated yes and she stated that they were a scam and I don't have a payday loan with them and she stated that they are lying and that she is going to show me by filing the charges. I asked her for her FTC number and she stated that she did not have to give me that information and that she is going to show me by filing the affidavit and having me arrested.I have contacted the FTC and the financeconsumer.gov I will also be contacted the state atty general about this as well.
I received a call from a person who identified themselves as Melissa Harvey, Litigation Services, Inc. Phone number 210-762-6854 (direct) and 210-960-9029 (the initial number that called). She stated that I was being called about check fraud and I owed $1,513.17. I called back and she informed me that I had taken out a loan in 2012, that they credited my account for a certain amount, and when they tried to debit the amount on the specified day it came back NSF. I didn't give out any of my information but she did have my name and phone number and stated that she could not mail out the affidavit or information that she had from the company because of volume. I told her I would call her back. At first I was scared and then my "spidy" (sp) senses took control. I went to the website that she said that I owed and the first thing I saw was a "Scam Alert". I called the number to on the website verify that I didn't have a loan with them that maybe I just didn't remember. The woman at the Payday loan company stated that they were getting a lot of complaints about this sort of deception and gave me the number to Veritec - the company that verifies where you have payday loans. I was skeptical about this, not knowing if they were affiliated with the scammers, so I called the Payday Loan company that I regularly deal with and they gave me the same number. I called Veritec and they told me that I only had one loan and that was the one that I knew about. I called back the website number, now knowing that they were legit, and they also verified that I never owed them anything. Being curious minded I called the scammers back to see what they would say would be a resolution to this NSF. She stated that she had talked with a supervisor and they could accept $600 in settlement or $270 to put a stop/hold on the account - I had until this afternoon. I asked how I would go about paying and she said that my information would be taken over a secure line and that would be all I needed to do. I told her again that I would call back - with no intentions to do so. Do not give these people any of your information. If you need to verify a payday loan call Veritec. I have blocked their calls from my phone - little help that is but....
