I got a bill from them for taxes on some oil land in Texas, along with threat to sue. When I called county assessor there, she said taxes had been paid. So I called Linebarger, got some dude who checked, and said, no taxes owed. I said right, why did they send bill. We went back and forth several times, with no satisfactory conclusion, and he offered to let me speak to lawyer re my owing tax liens that I had no idea I owed. I declined, since the guy was getting unpleasant – “It’s your job (says he) to know what your taxes are.” The stinker about Linebarger’s letter is its wording "despite our good faith efforts to contact you." Not so -- first I'd ever heard from them. The wording of the letter verges on harassment. I called the county assessor back, and she seemed perturbed to learn of LGBS attitude -- said it was probably their collection dept, "who doesn't know anything." True fact, that. The assessor was very helpful, but it was a totally unpleasant encounter w/LGBS. I'm going to cc this to assessor, who I hope doesn't give them any more business. BTW, the total tax in question was $46.
The City of Dallas municipal courts had apparently lost the final (satisfactory) disposition of a speeding ticket from 8 years ago & they turned over a strange unpaid balance of $86 to this cruddy collector. LGBS stacked their fees on top of it, but they are totally unable to try and resolve the court's discrepancy (just accept "no contest plea" and PAY. The City of Dallas Municipal court won't schedule a hearing because they don't have record of the initial charge... only the amount that their computer says is unpaid. Linebarger Goggan (their computer dialing agent) has been calling my home phone daily for the last 3 years :-O
