Met with John and I explained what needed to be done. 2 baths & bedroom walls and ceilings. He informed me that he knew what I needed and stated that I pick up the paint for bathrooms and he would get the white paint for the bedroom. He gave me a price of $800.00. I agreed.
Monday 08/13/18:
Came to house and prepped (he refers to it as mud) spackled/patched some holes the bathroom and put one coat of paint on. Painted both bath ceilings. He then told me he would be back Tuesday to put 2nd. coat on bathroom.
Tuesday 08/14/18:
John arrived - Put 2nd. coat on bathroom and he exited my home. After my husband and I inspected the bathroom there were holes in the walls, fuzz/cloth from the paint roller (used 1/2" roller, should have been 3/8"), many paint drippings (walls and floor and wood door frames/hand rails) and areas where you could see the original peach color coming through the lilac; a total disaster.
I called him Tuesday evening and told him that this is UNACCEPTABLE--he stated he will return on Wednesday 08/15/18 at @ 10:00 a.m. to fix.
He also painted (partial) bedroom ceiling and painted white on the natural wood beam.
NOTE: He asked me if I have any paint rollers & a paint hook for OUR ladder that he used! Came to job unequipped. I should have stopped him at that point. MY BAD!!!
NOTE: He used too thick of a roller on bath walls. Home Depot paint Rep at store stated that 3/8" should be used on drywall NOT 1/2". He used 1/2" roller this roller left bare spots along with original color (peach) coming through and fuzz, cloth debris/residue and paint drippings everywhere.
HE WAS ABSOLUTELY NOT EQUIPPED TO DO THIS JOB!
I trusted that I was getting a reputable painter but I paid for someone to make a mess of my bathroom.
Wednesday 08/15/18:
Came with another painter by the name of Rob or Bob. Two of them went through the bathroom putting "mud" (spackle) all over the areas of drippings, holes, etc. John Leoutaskos stated that this needed to dry and he would be back Friday (08/17/18 @ 10:00 a.m.) to sand the "mud" and paint a 3rd. coat. I have pictures of all the areas where they applied mud (spackle). A HUGE MESS.
Friday 08/17/18:
Never came to fix his mess AND never called. TOTALLY UNPROFESSIONAL.
***Note: I have natural wood moldings and doors where he left many paint stains (finger prints). John painted one side of bedroom ceiling and I have a natural wood beam which he has paint spots on. He never used tape, never used drop clothes, therefore I have paint on my natural wood moldings/doors, wooden hand rail which I now have to sand and polyurethane again.
Now I'm in the process of trying to find a painter who can fix this mess and they are all booked with jobs until the end of September.
Not only did I waste my money, but my precious time was also wasted at his expense. I checked with the bank and this check has been cashed or I would have put a stop payment on it. I put my faith and trust as he portrays himself to be a "professional".
I was undoubtedly taken advantage in a fraudulent manner by this company.
Leoutaskos Painting Contractor, owned by John Leoutakkos, of Atkinson, New Hampshire agreed to complete a Paint Job to my home. As soon as he agreed on the price for the job, he wanted to come to my home to sign the contract and receive the 50% Deposit in advance of any work being done. I told him that I would pay the 50% and sign the contract when they showed up, ready to go to work. They were supposed to bring 40 ft ladders and other equipment. Instead, he and his female additional painter showed up with nothing more than paint brushes.
I knew that I should not sign the Contract and should not pay the deposit until they arrived with their painting equipment. The front of the house has a peak that is 40 ft in height. The sides have four dormers that are located on the 3rd story of the house.
I already had my staging in front of two of the dormers. I had one forty foot ladder and one 30 ft ladder on the premises for the painters to use. Even so, they did not even use my staging or attempt to do any work on the dormers or front peak facing the street.
Instead of arriving with their equipment to paint the peak in front and to paint the four dormers, they arrived with nothing but paint brushes. I saw no other equpment. They were supposed to bring a truck which was supposedly filled with painting equipment and high ladders. They arrived in a car with no equipment.
Reluctantly, I signed the Contract and paid the $750 check to them. They two painters painted for about 4 hours total, left at about 3 p.m. with a great deal of painting to a house and attached townhouse remaining to be painted.
The Contract omitted many items that had been agreed upon. I had to extracate most of the items which needed to included from the owner who was very reluctant to make the corrections to the contract.
What they actually painted were trim to a few windows. The scraping had already been completed beforehand by other parties. The trim had already been primed. In addition, John Leoutaskos painted perhaps on tall trim board. I cannot go through the entire property to list every item that may have been painted. Basically, a few trim on windows had been painted on the first floor windows, no ladders involved. John Used my ladder to paint the one higher trim board that he painted. He also painted a small section of about 2 ft wide and perhaps 30 ft high.
The company was supposed to arrive on Monday morning, sign the contract, receive the deposit and begin paintinf the four dormers and front peak facing the street. I already stated what they did instead.
They said they would return the next day to work on the high areas.
After painting the few windows, and other items above, John began to ask me to agree to pay 25% after he painted the four dormers. I did not want to argue, but finally told him I would only pay after the job was completed.
