I was originally contacted by Kitara Media to place their video ads on my website.
We signed a contract and agreed on $3 / 1,000 video impressions. Payments were supposed to be NET 30
The contract was signed on October 23, 2014.
Ads began to run on my website and I earned $322 in October
November I earned about $3,349
On December 10th I emailed them asking about payment as it had been well over 30 days and I had not received any payment for October.
I was told they were behind on payments due to a merger taking place. They said my payment would be direct deposit the followinig day. The next day no payment was made. This went on for about 2 weeks. I finally threatened to make a small claims suit against them and pulled down there ads.
On about December 20th they made a direct deposit into my account for October and November.
I reinstated their ads on my website thinking this had just been due to their merger as they stated.
December I earned $2,079 and January $714. Again no payments came in. On February 10th I had my lawyer email them asking about payment. They responded that they were still behind because of the merger (sent a link to a CNN news article on the merger) and would pay me the next day. Again no payment was made. After several emails with my attorney they said they had mailed out a check. 2 weeks later no check had been received.
My attorney emailed them again but received no response. He emailed a final notice stating we were taking this matter to small claims. Still no response.
Today I filed a small claims suit against Kitara Media and Future Ads for the outstanding balance of $3,115.
It cost me $106 to file and server the small claims paperwork and a day away from the office. Now I have to wait a month for the trail and hopefully get paid.
During the time their ads ran on my site I saw a substantial decrease in ad revenue from my other ad network Google Adsense. Their videos also slowed down my page load speed causing my traffic to decline.
Doing business with Kitara Media was the worst decision I've made so far.
