This report was written on behalf of a dear friend. We will call her Mrs. X. She was wronged by her employer and he continues to lie about the situatuion.
Anthony who owns Kasia Cafe has told every employee different stories regarding how credit card tips are processed. He told one person that he gets taxed so he doesn't process the credit tips. He told another person that they do get the tips on their paycheck. After my Mrs. X. quit, he told the employees that he gets the credit card tips in his account and pays everyone $1 more per hour for the week. This adds up to 6 dollars an hour and cash tips are split between 4-6 people through a day shift.
The owner is also very innappropriate - be it while working with him or communicating with him via text message. A employee inquired about her cut hours with a text message. The owner blew up and sent a series of text messages ranting about how the get credit card tips are processed, Mrs. X. is doing shady stuff at the register and thus every employee isn't getting their rightful credit card tips, Mrs. X is a c***/Mrs. X is retarded, and you (all employees) are all too simple to realize how good I treat you. (This loosely worded but the text messages exists in paperform)
At no point has he ever admitted to any of his wrong doings. For everything a current or previous employee states, there is a retort and condescending response which in turn belittles the employee and discourages further confrontation with the owner. None of the customers would know that any of this is happening due to the fact that he creates a facade. He is very engaging and polite to customers while they are in the establishment. He will have no issue speaking ill of them as they leave, talking about them as though they are proverbal cash cows. If some of the customers could hear what he says about them, I do not think they would ever come back to the cafe.
No effort has been made on his behalf to apologize or account for lost wages due to the way in which credit card tips were being processed. Something has to be done in order to habor positive in his establishment or else he will continue to steamroll and mislead his employess. A successful business can pay minimum wage and create a healthy and postive work environment.
