I've been having problems with Kaplan for over a year. They promised me (which I have email reocords of) that I would NOT be charged and would be able to withdraw during their "commit period". Fast forward a few weeks ad when I go to withdraw, lo and behold, I cannot.
They then tell me I owe them around $1100 USD for the late withdrawal. It infuriates me that they can do this and basically scam people out of they're money. I am in the process of being called by collections on behalf of these frauds and I am seeking help from lawyers and other financial advisors as to what I can do.
Hopefully someone here can help out or atleast point me in the right direction as who to contact to hopefully dispute these charges. Since this happened I have done a little research and saw that I wasn't alone in this and I'm not sure if it's comforting or just sad that this has happened to so many others.
I wish I had the foresght at the time to look into this school but, as many others, I really felt I needed to get back to school and felt this would be a good way to go.
I started fine with Kaplan, after about 9 weeks I recieved a notice stating that I owed them $800 in which financial aid could not cover. After spending countless hours over the phone with financial aid, the price kept going up. I thought financial aid was going to take care of the expense. When I was in the middle of my 9 week classes I was blocked from the online boards and could not access my classes. This causing me to either fall way behind or failing the class. This happened several times. I ended up failing approx. 7-9 classes because of this practice. Every time I tried to speak with financial aid it got me nowhere. I made several complaints about the financial aid and nothing improved. I asked if I could transfer my credits because this was ridiculous about how they were recieving more then $12,000 per year from my student loans and yet they kept hassling me about the $800 and all the new fees it came with. In the end I am getting money taken out of my check every pay check and my credit is now horrible. I owe the student loans from Kaplan alone over $35,000 and they are still harrasing me at work. If proof is what I need for class action law suit I have plenty of it, just look at my grades and look at when I was blocked from the school and then look at all the records I made with the school. Further more, look at my credit and wages.
