I was contacted by Joe Hale of NationalProduct.com and was asked if I did website fixes, how much I charged... if it was by project or by the hour, normal things. He proceeded to attempt to tell me what the issue was with his website nationalproduct.com and how his rv stepmats marketing was genius because he buys the domains for each proudct rather than just adding pages. After that he proceeded to tell me all the different people he's had work on nationalproduct.com and how each of them were good bad or indifferent, I got the full history. Joe Hale talked all about ""Search Engine Automization"" and how he's outsmarted everyone with what he's doing and so on and so on and how he doesn't want to pay for that nonsense. Now, the issue he was having with nationalproduct.com was that his email marketing campaign wasn't working. The las guy that had done it had made a simple coding error and it was pointing to the wrong pdf. My guess would be that Joe Hale had someone doing the work, the person he hired said he was finished and Joe Hale decided he didn't want to pay for the services and cut him off (much like he did with me). So, I quoted him $150 thinking it was going to be an easier fix to chang esome links and to change some titles around, file structures, be good to go.
Nationalproduct.com is a total mess on the backend, there are files and folders in the hundreds and nothing is organized the way it should be. I proceeded to do my best to attempt to find the errors but it took some time to figure out how things were structered and that godaddy hosts their own email marketing campaigns on their server, not on the client side. Anyway, once the work was done, I contacted Joe Hale and told him the errors were fixed and I was ready to move on to the next project he had in store. He said he was going to look things over and he'd get back to me about what was next. After that weekend I never heard back from him and he changed all of his account passwords. Come to find out he'd been contacting other designers to have them continue on and do work and one of them just happened to be an associate he I know and am in contact with regularly. After confirming that it was the same Joe Hale that had contacted them, I tried several times to contact Joe Hale with no luck and he hung up on the phone when confronted about him not paying for the work that was done.
