I went to JJ's Used Cars looking for an SUV on 7/14/2014. I really liked a 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada they had. It only had 124,755 miles and looked in great shape. They wanted $5995 I test drove it two different times during the week and took it to my mechanic for an inspection.
My mechanic found over $1600 worth of work that included:
-Mass Air Flow Sensor
-Replacing the lower ball joints
-Transmission flush (normal)
-Serpentine belt (probably normal for the mileage and age)
-Four new SUV tires (ones on vehicle were completely bald and cracking)
-Alignment
-Repair/Replace the idler arm
-Airbag sensor codes were indicated on diagnostic. Wasn't sure what that could've entailed.
My mechanic didn't proceed to check the engine because he knew that the dealer wasn't going to go $1600 down on the price for these. I don't know whether the engine was good or not (it knocked a little, but not bad).
When I took the SUV back to JJ's Used Cars the dealer was horrible and even questioned my mechanics compentance. I tried to show him the details of what was found so that maybe they could check them out and he just threw his hand up and said "You can go to any mechanic and they will find something wrong". Excuse me, but these were major repairs totaling over $1600, not just an alignment and new tires. He stormed off without shaking my hand or thanking me for taking the time to spend money on having the vehicle inspected and not to mention I had to put a quarter tank of gas in it because there was not enough gas to get to my mechanic who was only five miles from the dealership.
So, buyer beware at this place because it does not appear they inspect their vehicles (or do it very well) or if they do they do not disclose any of the major repairs with a buyer. This could've been disasterous for me since vehicles bought used are "As Is" with no warranty for this dealership. I also don't appreciate the salesman questioning my mechanics integrity and reputation, both of which are impeccable.
