Very interesting ceocnpt using a professional barter exchange sounds like it takes much of the risk out of this type of business transaction. Of course, as a CPA, I love the recordkeeping piece of your service as well, thanks for the information!
International Monetary Systems (IMS Barter) is a nationwide barter/trade exchange that works with business owners who trade products and services.
They purchased a Mom & Pop exchange in St. Louis MO. (I BELIEVE THEY HAVE 17 DIFFERENT OFFICES).
This exchange, before the buy-out I worked for them for 10 years and left after given an ultimatum of selling for them full time or leave - I choose to leave. I wanted to start my own Mom & Pop exchange to give the St. Louis buisness owners an exchange that would not cheat or discriminate against the "smaller" trader." Just 2 years after I started my barter exchange, the owner sold out to corporate IMS. Which in his many years prior, in the industry talked against corporate because of the "greed" fees they came up with, changing the barter system to fit them, not the business owner. Politics/MONEY will change ones small mind sometimes...and surely in this case.
IMS came into town and want to "think" they will take it over - the words from the CEO is he will take us down..if I were to try to show up at one of their events (like I'd even want to) they could take turns punching me in the eye, (great words for a CEO of a corporation, right?) John Strabley told me..."As you are well aware, we have a foothold in the St. louis area" (his words) I had to laugh - the office itself has been in St. Louis for 30 years with 500 member's - My exchange has been here for "5" years and we have 400 clients. (we call our business owners clients, not MEMBER'S. we work for our clients, we are not a SAM'S club) DEAR MR STRABLEY - WHO HAS THE FOOTHOLD??
The CEO comes in town and runs the bars with his office manager hitting on waitresses and bartenders..something his wife would love to know. The CEO is only the CEO because of his wife's Father, otherwise he'd be a poor "little" man, not a rich "little" man. He's a grown man, that buys his pants in the boys section.
After taking over the St. Louis office he was making his plan to fire one of the best employees the company had. He made ALL employees sign a NON-Compete or they had to leave. One piticular employee he was targeting - because of her health and age (but can't be proved) except from an email from HR to the other broker who said to be sure when interviewing and hiring it would be someone that could give longevity.
After finding her replacement - their plan to fire her, came on a day that we received 14 inches of snow in January 2014. The office manager (at the time) started calling and texting her to be sure she was coming in so they could fire her before the new hire started the next day. Even though the office was closed, she was told - they reopened the office, they wanted her to DRIVE in to work to get fired...and then drive back home. She told him, she couldn't get her car out of the driveway...he called her back an hour later and fired her over the phone. Classey people, risk her life to drive in to work in a snow storm to get fired!!
After 5 months of trying to find work at 56 years old, (widowed 28 years) numerous interviews, sending out countless resume's, she had no luck. She has received foreclosure notices, behind on all her bills & only receiving 20 weeks of unemployment. She is dead broke! I being a friend of her's and having my own trade exchange, reached out to help her and give her employemnt to try and help her....Well, well, well,,,
IMS got news of this and is threatening to SUE her for going to work for us!! If they DIDN'T want her...why would they care if she went to work for us?? Because he is a heartless tiny man, with no backbone.
He has made her very sick, I only hope and pray a judge would see that they are spineless and are only doing this because of spite and money - to show power...little tiny people like to show some sort of power, because they are too small to have "man" power.
IMS corporate should be ashamed...but then you have to have some kind of heart!
