Indoor Air Quality Inc. (License #981316) came on Friday, May 9, 2014 to provide a quote to replace the entire house's ducting with Air Ducts R-6 Flex, A/C and Heater system. The quote was for a 4 Ton A/C (Trane Model XLi 18) with a Seer Rating up to 18. It also included an 80% efficiency 4 Ton Horizontal Variable Trane Heater and Coil. The work costed $16,794. When offering the sales pitch, the company was pushing a 15 months Zero Interest loan up to $9,400 from Wells Fargo with an interest rate of 27.99% if not fully paid after the introductory period. A second 12 months Zero Interest loan up to $4,000 from GreenSky with an interest rate of 26.99% after the introductory period was also offered. At first I was willing to have the system installed since I won't have to pay too much up front for the cost and I also thought that the system with two zone will conserve power and gas. But upon discussion with my wife that Friday evening she immediately said that this system is way too expensive for the components quoted. I immediately called the company back the next business morning (Monday, May 12, 2014) to cancel the work, but the company was unwilling to let me cancel. The company said (I spoke to Mike the company's engineer) that they have already ordered the parts and that I can not cancel the work. If I cancel then I will have to pay for the cost and take delivery of the components. Based on standard contract agreement I have three days to back out of the contract. In this situation I was not allowed to cancel the contract. The company came and install the system on Thursday, May 15, 2014. Upon completion, it was discovered that the ducts were under designed so the flow was inadequate to a few rooms. The company did not even conduct an air balance system check on the entire house after the system was installed. They just installed the system and then left without doing much adjustments. I had to call the company back 3 or 4 times to correct the duct size. The company would send their installers to just to do what was asked but did not bother to check if the over all system work well before they leave. After I come home from work I would test the system and find out that the whole system is not working properly. I would then have to call them back again to reschedule to come again to correct the problem. The two zone system did not work well as the company designed. If I turned on just one zone then it work reasonably okay. But if both zone are ON then some registers would not have any air flow. I again would have to call the company back to correct the problem. I can't remember how many times they came to fix the system during the summer. When winter came I tried the heater and again it had problems. Some low voltage components some how got short circuited and for the rest of the winter I had no working heater. The whole HVAC system have never worked to my satisfaction. Just before the one year warranty was about to expired, I again have problem with my heater. The company have been at my home about 6 times in the month of April 2015 to try to get the heater system to work. Each time they came to do work I would hope that the system was repaired but they would say that they found another component is damaged and needs replacement. I would have to wait sometimes up to two weeks for them to get the replacement part and another week for them to schedule the work. The company would often confirm the schedule for a visit but not show up due to delay from their current projects. The company would called at the last minute to inform that they can not come which is bad customer service. The company scheduled a visit on 4/24/2015 and did not show up. On 4/25 came for two hours and could not fix the problem. The company did not called back the next day to give status. I called today Tuesday, May 28, 2015 and the technician refused to work with me since I posted a bad review of the company on Yelp on 4/24/2015. I talked to the owner (Danny) today and now he said it is a warranty problem with Trane (the manufacturer). They can not do anything for me until Trane respond. So for now I am up the creek without a working air conditioner system that I have already paid for almost $17,000 if the weather get hot.
