Hughes net 4G internet service advertises fast internet service with their 4G network. This is nothing more than a maketing ploy to trick you into believing that this service is the real deal for rural internet surfing. Once you have the service, you'll find that the speed drops off to a snails pace. When you call to complain, you will get a song and dance about having to purchase more stuff to get it to work. That works in the short term but once again you could send smoke signals quicker than waiting for a connection. So what do you do, you call back and complain and are again told you need to buy more stuff. You do that and things a fine for a short period and once again the slow down monster attacks. This time when you call, you get a tech guy who runs you a series of tests you don't understand unless you're a PHD in computer sience, only to find out you have more stuff to buy. Now you're initial monthly bill has doubled and the throttle down monster strikes again. This time I sign up for the monthly tech service (which is independent) who very quiclky tells me there is nothing wrong on my end and the real problem is Hughes Net and their throttle down procedures. Then they prove it by showing the low signal coming from Hughes Net. You call them back and thats when the whole thing really get interesting. They tell you the signal comes from the source which they have no control over. For real! you put something in orbit you have no control over? Maybe I should send the check to it instead. So you threaten to cancel and get the legal nonsence about a contract and so on. You tell them, the contract is for high speed internet service which I'm not getting so the contract isn't worth the paper its printed on. The go silent for a few minutes and then appologize adn lower your bill for you troubles. So it now cheaper for the same rotten service you always get
In any event, be very careful if you intend to purchase this service and sign a contract because what has happened to me is not unique only to me.
The salespeople DO NOT provide you with full disclosure of how their system works even after you tell them HOW you use the internet.
They hit you with slowed down services with a "token system" that they never tell you about before you sign for 2 years. When I say say slow, I mean DSL slow until you BUY more tokens. They also tritely say "well it's all over our website! I didn't sign on from their site I talked to a "sales person". Liars and extornists is what they are.
Then, when you call them on their fraudulent practices they let you know it will cost you a mint to cancel OR you can be further ripped off by upgrading which will cost more than 80 bucks a month.
Do not sign with HugesNet or any other Internet service until they give you EVERYTHING they require in writing...and even then read it three times and take it to a lawyer to read if you can.
American companies are by far the most dishonest I have dealt with for over 20 years. I am definitely considering never using the internet again. If I can beg borrow or screw someone for the money I need to cancel Huges I will definitely do so post haste!
I will use a library computer for research and my phone for business or go directly to whomever I need to contact once I shut it down.
When HughesNet says "up to 10 Mbps" what they mean is .5 Mbps, except from the hours of 2am to 7 am. We used HughesNet at our cabin home, and virtually every time we would visit, a great deal of time was consumed with technical support. In addition to slow service, consumers need to be sure to read the fine print with HughesNet: you are only able to use a certain amount of Internet data each month, and when you exceed that, you have to purchase pricey restore tokens to regain service. In the end, this is the most expensive "service" available.
We found another provider, and we called to cancel HughesNet. It was a fight just to get the contract canceled. When we explained that it seemed unjust to have to pay $144 to cancel a service we never truly received, the best they could offer was to reduce the fee to $72 (and, because they charge a month in advance, they are still keeping our $79 fee that was just paid with only 4 days into that month's service).
I called hughes net in feburary for there service, got it installed out here after leaving there was no service, called hughes net to cancel, the lady said it was cacelled they would send me a box to return the items back, no box to return the items called them back march , the same thing happened no box to return the items, again in april..now it is may called them again to cancel and return the items, they told money out of my grandsons account and refuse to put it back in.of 79.13 cancel led my card calld them and told them what they did and they refuse to put his money back in his account, finally recived a box on 5/19/14 then no ups truck came to pick it up until I went to ups store to shipped it off and then on may 21,2014 they recived it then tryed to take 300.00 , more out on my grandsons account..now the bank is disputed the charges on his account..do not use them watch your accounts....also if they ask for a credit card DoNot give them one.they will tell you they will not use it...Thats A Lie..
I purchased the HughesNet dish internet system in January 2014.
It have never given me consistent internet service for 5 months.
We have tried trouble shooting over the phone for the first 3 months without success.
Now in May we are fed up with paying $51 a month which increased to $61 a month while still being unable to gain reliable access to the internet. They would not send out a technician to fix it and the phone calls take hours and waste our time.
When I called to cancel, they said they would charge me a $300 early cancellation fee. I told them to remove my credit card information and do not auto withdraw any more. They told me I would be charged for paper invoices.
I am fed up with being forced to pay for poor quality and poor service. If the product is bad and the service there should be no penalties for canceling.
Also after canceling, they would not send out a technician to remove their dish and equipment.
What a pain!
Will someone please stop these predatory service companies?
Worse internet option by far . Hugh's net sends sub contractors to do the installation . The contractors installed the satellite in my front window of our home . 3 feet from the front . Drilled two holes in front of our home and only needed one. You will have to go buy a separate wifi modem least expensive $79 they will tell you to pick up at least a net gear 600 . The tech will tell you this not Hugh's net . I called to have the dish moved as this was done while I was unaware an at work , I had to pay out of pocket $200 for a second contractor to come out and move the dish . 10 gb's from 8 a.m. To 2 a.m. And another ten from 2 a.m. To 8a.m. I ran out of data in one week ! Just by reading emails and sending . Maybe 100 emails a week and replying to 10 . I was told I was only going to have to pay $68 a month for service and when the money came out of the bank for the first three months it was over $98 . This is a rip
Off !! I called and was told I could purchase more gb's of course for a fee . I canceled my service and went with AT&T . I was charged $370 total for early termination . I explained to Hugh's net that I could not pay the amount all at once and would pay the amount in the next two weeks . The credited me the $200 for the service call to move the dish and charged my bank $170 bucks the very next day . I called to complain and after talking to a supervisor finally after 45 minutes . I was told that I couldn't have the funds back . I would have to call my bank . I almost lost my wife's vehicle over this as I had planned for that money to pay the note that month . So in a long story short , it's better to go without internet than fool with this company . They are like used car sales reps . Promise the world and make it sound so great for a cheap price. Do not give them the option of automatic debit withdrawal do not let them scam you into buying this service . You will be better off using a hotspot because the service is slow as molasses ! Seriously took many attempts to send an email response and many attempts to even get my computer or iPad to pick up the service .
