Horton Homes Inc Reviews

I purchased a Horton Home and have had so many problems with this home. Most were fairly minor but my central heating and Air has just failed after just over two years of living in this home. The typical problems are related to quality in manufacturing which completely does not exist in this home. Sheet rock walls are coming loose from the 2 x 4, as staples were used to put the sheet rock on. I guess this flaw could be considered a good thing since the carpet is such a poor quality taking the walls off won't be too hard. When they build these homes, the flooring is laid down before the interior walls, and then the interior walls are installed and nailed right into the carpet. I dare a manufactured home salesman to tell me their homes are as good as a stick built house. Some doors do not close, and there are gaps around the front door so large I can stick my pinky finger completely out the door when it is closed. The pipe for the kitchen sink went through the floor and was not connected, just emptied the sink and dishwasher right into the insulation under the floor. There are cracks in the ceiling, molding separating from the ceiling, and the one outside electrical outlet failed after a year. The walls are made with vinyl siding, a half inch of styrofoam insulation stapled to the 2 x 4's and then inside the walls, pink fiberglass covered with sheet rock. I thought the outside would have OSB or some kind on wood but it does not.

The biggest issue is the heating and air conditioning unit. This unit was used 2 years and 4 months and now I am told that I must replace this entire system at a out of pocket cost of $8300, the first quote. The manufacturer of this system is Intertherm, outside is Miller, both made by Nordyne. This is a 1 year warranty, the heating system and house were built in 2008, and never sold until 2011, the air conditioning system is a 2011. The sale of this house was completed in August 2011. The Nordyne people, of course wont warranty anything, and one of the people for Nordyne sent out to look at this unit, said it was the worse made product on the market, and that no one would work on it and I had to replace it. I can't afford the replacement costs and cannot get the unit financed and replaced. I will have to live in this house like it is, even if it gets down to 9 degrees like it did last year. My advise to all, NEVER buy a Horton home. I have owned three double-wides and this one is a "top-of-the-line" Horton home and is by far the worst made home I have ever had, lived in or seen. A house made of lego would be stronger than this house.
