I went to look at an apartment in Minneapolis, MN owned by Hornig Companies, and was asked to put a $625 deposit to hold the apartment. The next day, I found an apartment in another part of the city that suited me better, so I asked for the deposit back from the Hornig apartment as I would not be needing it. Hornig then said that the deposit was their's due to "loss of revenue while the apartment was being held for me". This, after I had told them that I was not interested in the apartment and they reposted the ad for the apartment. So they took my money to hold the apartment, then took my money when I no longer needed the apartment, justifying this by saying they lost money in the short time between me looking at it and it going back on the market.
