Homework Woodworking was contracted to build custom high end professional grade kitchen and
bathroom cabinets for our new home in Boulder. Per the contract with Bob Solgot, the work proposal description outlines the basics of cabinet construction, materials to be used, carbon copies of cabinet layout sketches for the entire kitchen and sample sketch of a typical bathroom vanity. Cabinet sketches outline the number and sizes of cabinets that were purchased per the
contract. Additionally. the work proposal contract contained 7 photos detailing
the "expectation" of the work performed. Specifically, the Contractor was well informed of the expectation of the professional level of cabinets he was contracted to build. Photos showed white inset shaker style cabinets, construction of custom alder island, and custom hood cabinet over range, and furniture grade custom built in kitchen hutch. Also, architectural drawings showing the kitchen and bathroom vanity layouts were provided to the Contractor during the proposal phase and contract signing. The signed contract specified that shaker style knotty alder cabinets with inset doors were to be constructed for the bathrooms. A combination of knotty alder cabinets, professionally production quality catalyzed lacquer white maple cabinets, custom knotty alder hutch, and custom knotty alder island were to be constructed per the contract specifications. Contract was all inclusive and included taxes, labor, materials, delivery, installation, knob installation, and coordination to site for measurements. The only thing that was excluded was drawer knobs which have to be purchased by Client.
Bob's cabinets arrived on site with primer on them. They were not professionally sanded and painted with catalyzed lacquer. Alder cabinets had glue on them, and need lots of touch up work. All of the cabinet doors and drawer faces were crooked and out of square. Bob made no effort to check the doors and drawer faces to make sure they were straight in the opening with an industry standard reveal. Bob put no professional "end panels" on any end cabinets. Bob could NOT install a professional grade crown molding or finish toe kicks because he did not know how. Bob's alder island was constructed with mismatched lengths of wood and paneling that is falling apart. Cabinets had multiple dings and scratches on them. He made no effort to deliver them with care. He also made NO effort to sand the cabinets prior to painting with primer only. Bob made no effort to delivery the level of professional cabinets intended in the contract that we agreed to and provided money for. We received over 12 estimates to repair these cabinets. All of the repair estimates are over $15K. Bob has not been responsive in curing any issues in a timely manner or refunding our money.
