I received an email from a job with a company called "Headway Management Group" last week from a woman named Catherine Smith who was the HR Coordinator. At first I thought that it was a management job I had applied for with a retirement home in the town I live in. They told me that the interview was in Woburn Mass. I figured it was the home office so I set up an interview on Thursday at 1pm.
That night, as I usually do, I looked up the company....no website, just links to all the jobs they were filling. All of them were for marketing or public relations. None of them were descriptive and gave no information as to where the job was.
The next morning I called Headway's main number and got a generic voice mail of who I assumed was Catherine. I hung up and emailed her asking her to email me back telling me what I would be doing at this job and where I would be working. This was at 9:30am. I continued to check my emails to see if she replied....she did not. An hour or so later, I got an email from a different person who was out of the NY office (??) She wanted to confirm my appointment at 1pm.
Fortunately, there was a number....I called it and again, got a voicemail...I hung up again. My phone rang about a minute later....it was the NY office. I asked her if she could tell me what exactly the job was and where I would be working. She only gave me the same generic description. She told me she would find out and call me back.
She never got back to me. So I called Catherine again and hold her I wouldn't drive somewhere that I had no idea what the job was. I never got a call back from her.
At 12:44pm I got this email from her (remember now, the appointment was at 1pm.)
"Our office is located in Woburn. You applied for events and PR position. This would include the ins and outs of the events we run and then moves into doing more of the behind the scenes work, ie, scheduling, inventory, team building etc."
Ok, we now I have a vague idea of what this job is, but still no specifics. The office is in Woburn, thanks, but again where am I working? What events would I be working on? Where are they? Who are they for? Why doesnt this company have a company website (not the generic one they sent in the original email that is not listed on any web search?)
If she really works in HR, why couldn't she email me back or call me back? Why couldn't the woman in NY call me back? So many questions, so many red flags waving that I wasn't going to waste my time driving that far to find out that this company is another "revolving door" company.
The reason I didn't go was that I was fooled about a year ago with a company that asked me to come there and learn about the job (another "PR and Marketing" company.) I trusted them and when I got there is was a company that wanted me to drive all over Mass and NH selling satellite services (low pay, no mileage pay and no benefits.) I thanked them for my time and left. Guess where the home office was??? Yup...Woburn Mass.
Catherine told me that I had applied for this position. I checked my sent file on my email account....there is nothing there email to Headway Management Group....surprise! I do have my resume on linkedin.co however. I think they found it there.
So is the same company with a new name? I'm not sure, but if I were you I would stear clear of Headway Management Group.
