All goodwill stores in some states in the south treat their employes like dogs .yell at them threat them and lie about every thing. Its all about the money .No wonder they are losing money and getting less donations All the employes hear is bad things from the custmers We get no raises and low pay have to work very hard and what we do is never enough or right .Its our fault they aren t making money .And every morning they tell us how much they sold the day before but we don t give a damn cause it doesn t effect our pay. I think goodwill is going to the dogs and we don t care
I was hired by Goodwill in Decemeber 2014 and I was told they would make me a full time employee with full benefits.
I worked very hard and made sure I was never late, nor did I call in sick. My boss knew my mother has cancer and he knew how important my job and being moved to full time was to me. He told me on a couple of different occasions that he was submitting me as a candidate for the full time position.
My boss, Jay, knows that I am learning disabled, but he said I did a good job and all I needed to do was try to be a little bit quicker.
So while I was working hard expecting that I was being put in for full time, he suddenly hired three new people and gave one of them the full time position that I was promised. This was in January.
When I asked him why he gave the position to someone else he told me it was because of my attendance. I told him that my attendance wasnt bad and the one of my two absences resulted from him sending me home because of my painful tooth, so he told me to talk to the other manager. When I talked to the other manager I told her how important the full time position was to me, as I needed the dental benefits. Thats when she told me that 'making up excuses to not move people to full time positions is what we have to do sometimes.'
Now its been a couple of weeks. I have mentioned to some other work friends that I was going to have to find another part time job to try and make up the difference after I was not given the position I was told I would have.
I went to work on Saturday, March 21st and started my normal shift when a fellow employee approached me and told me that Jay wanted to see me. As I got to his office door he looked up at me and said 'Hey buddy come in and have a seat'. So I did. He then proceeded to ask me if I had been going around to other employees and telling them that I was going to 'kick his *** and punch his lights out?' I was shocked, and I immediately replied "No, Im not a threatening person, Jay, I put that on my grandfathers grave." Then he glanced down at his computer, then looked back up at me and said, " Im not worried about you smoking me..so I want you to grab your things and head out ." I was still shocked ! I asked him if he wanted to check my bag or anything and he said " No, dont come back in here or I will call the police on you." He then added " Obviously I have to do an investigation and if something comes up you will be terminated from this job, but if nothing does , then you can come back to work."
These people offer true junk for high prices, ripping off people who already have little money. We bought some defectively made shower curtain hangars; they looked fine, but when we got them home, they were weighted in such a way that the "upper loop" slipped off the shower curtain rod any time you moved it. We returned these items in pristine condition, repackaged, and explained the problem. The manager said that we could return them for a $5 exchange next time she was in. Well, we returned repeatedly and -- guess what? -- she was never there. Finally, we found her there, and she said, "Oh, it's been too long." Hey, nice setup there, lady!
Avoid this place like the plague -- worthless junk for hyperinflated prices to rip off those with little money. They lost our business. Go to one of the other thrift shops or Walmart -- it's actually cheaper. I actually compared a couple of prices, and Walmart WAS cheaper, and even the ones that were cheaper are all problematic and have no guarantee. As usual, those with the least money have the least right to be treated as human.
