I have been shopping on this site for about 6 months, and every item I win, I get the most inflated shipping charges tacked on. Then you have to fight with some faceless customer service person who may or may not attempt to find a reasonable shipping cost. Lets not forget the "handling fee". Now let me get this straight:
a) you hire sub-minimum wage work force to "help them out"?
b) all your inventory costs you ZERO, $0, NADA because people like me give it to you?
c) Goodwill Industries cannot negotiate better shipping rates with a major carrier?
d) you charge handling fees for work done by a workforce that already makes at or below minimum wage?
I don't know about the accusations of schill bidding, I like to think there is some honor to this non-profit organization, but seems to me they sure are taking a lot from the very same people that donate stuff to them.
As for me, I'm done. My money spends perfectly fine in every corner of the world and I can no longer support GoodWill industries
I went to Goodwill Hampton VA been many times, I go to the Outlet side and this was the first time I have run into this. I filled my basket to check out and had the manager take an item from the basket and say he cant sell it to me its a mistake then walk away with it. It was nothing more then a network card for a laptop not worth a whole lot but I spent an hour digging this out from the piles of garbage to have them take it back because they deemed it worth more then .59 cents? I thought this was the whole point of the outlet side. I tried to complain but he said he was the manager and he didn't really seem to care that not only is it bad business practices but also I believe illegal to offer something for sale then refuse to see it to you. Gee I wonder what else they take from people. I tried to call the 1-800 number o their website but it doesn't even go to Goodwill. Not a happy shopper.
I travel a lot. When I am on the road I often use shopgoodwil and have the items delivered to my home address. My son comes by evryday and brings in the mail. I have not had any problems with this system. Until this place totally scammed me. Nothing I have never bought anything from Shopgoodwill and needed a signature--NOTHING even items I have bought from El Paso's site, Well they sent my packages with a "signature needed"--wwhy? it's used clothing? I have no idea. Of course there was no one there to "sig" and they were sent back. My money was not refunded (several hundred dollars) and El Paso online Goodwill states. "Since there was no one there to sign and thjey came back to us we condider the item and the money you paid to be aq donation" Seriously!!!! So where's the tax reciept for this?? They refuse to do anyything about it--in fact won't answer my continued requests for a solution.. send me the items or refund the money. This is outright theft and mail fraud. I will never purchase from them again--much less donate to them. I got scammed big time with this trick of theirs!
I totally agree with the negative reports against the shopgoodwill.com website. Personally, I can only blame myself for subjecting myself to the deceptive way they conduct their business. Yes, their shipping charges are excessive and their handling charges are too. I do enjoy the variety of items and admit I got carried away with bidding on things I really wanted. Today, was the straw for me when I bid on and won (6) Star Wars action figures for $6.99 and ended up paying almost $23 for postage and handling. I should kick myself for agreeing to pay for it. However, I was obligated to pay because I accepted their terms and unlike them, I fear God. It is really sad how dishonest people/organizations are. I've been on this earth 62 years and it still amazes me the length people will go to steal from people. This is for you shopgoodwill: ""What does it profit a man to gain the world and lose his soul""? One day the CEO and other big wigs at shopgoodwill, Walmart and all the big companies that steal from hardworking people will have to give account of what they've done.
Bottom line: I won't be bidding on shopgoodwill anymore. Additionally, the Santa Ana location, where I won the items I mentioned above, can forget the email reply they sent today because I did not believe a word in it.

I e-mailed a person at a goodwill about shipping charges that were way to high.
they said they were REQUIRED TO ADD 2 POUNDS TO THE WEIGHT!
they also get you on dimensional weight. ... i seen things that weighed less than 3 lbs listed as 15!
buy a ring and it cost you 15.00 to ship 30 miles
if you can pick it up it still costs you a handling fee.
just rip-offs its that simple
