I live in Canada and have a few reservations about getaroom.com There are some extremely scrupulous issues with this reservation system. First off it seems as though they are piggybacking off other reservation systems to steal business. I was using Hilton Reservation Counter to book a room at Garden Hilton Inn @ Niagara on the Lake, Ontario, Canada. The female reservation agent advised that the Inn could not accommodate 5 people in my party on the date I requested. She recommended going with the Residence Inn & Conference Centre which was very near to the Garden Hilton Inn. She led me to believe that the Residence Inn was part of the Hilton Hotels chain. I came to find out that it in fact was not part of the Hilton Chain of hotels. The rate was $56.48 per night per room. The total should have been $127.65 CAD including applicable taxes. When I finally received the confirmation email I came to find the cost was $146.56 USD. There was an additional charge for resort fees. Let me tell you that this hotel is not a resort. It is not located anywhere near an ocean or sea. It is not located on the shores of Lake Ontario or Lake Erie. It is nowhere near the Niagara River. It is in the middle of the Niagara Peninsula between St Catharines and Niagara Falls, Ontario, Canada. It is a post-secondary education residence that is used as a hotel during the summer months. I really don't see how this qualifies for a resort fee. The also charged me in USD making the total come to approximately $180.00 for the two rooms, well above the $127.65 CAD it should of cost. I am a Canadian resident making a booking from my home in Canada and staying at a hotel in Canada. I fail to see how this can be charged in US greenbacks. This now leads to the nightmare of dealing with the customer support. Once I realized the deceptive practises being employed here, I promptly called the company to cancel the reservation as it was 100% refundable up until the day before the reservation. The agent advised me that they could process the cancellation and referred me to a supposedly customer service department. The female representative asked what Travel Company I was with and I advised her I was just a customer who was referred to her by an agent. She stated that she could not help me with the cancellation as it was not the right department and referred me to another number which turned out to be Expedia. The new way to conduct business....deflect, deflect, deflect. After all this deflection I called my credit card company to put a stop payment on it and report the company as employing deceptive and fraudulent business practises. When I finally got through to cancel and was verbally given a cancellation reference number, I requested an email stating so. I never received it and called back the next day to confirm it was cancelled and asked to speak to a manager to put in a complaint. I explained all to her and as usual all I received was how sorry they are in a tone of voice indicating that no action would likely be taken. I again asked for a cancellation confirmation email and I still haven’t received one.
To sum up: If you book a hotel through Getaroom.com, you will be lied to, misled, receive extra charges you were not told about, charged in USD when you aren’t leaving Canada & deflected when you attempt to address the issues. BUYER BEWARE!!!
While trying to find a last minute hotel in New Orleans, LA, I came across a room with www.getaroom.com. I booked the room online but did not get a response immediately. I contacted the hotel directly to confirm my reservation. The desk clerk told me that they had not received anything and that they had no rooms available. I was afraid I would get to New Orleans and not have a room, so I booked a room at another hotel. GetARoom.Com charged my credit card. When I contacted them and explaied what happend, they told me the charge was non-refundable.
I needed a hotel room for a last minute trip to New Orleans, LA. Reservations for this particular Saturday were very hard to find. I found a room on www.getaroom.com and booked the room. When I did not receive a confirmaiton immediately, I called the hotel and spoke with the front desk clerk. She told me that I did not have a reservation and that the hotel was booked solid for the night I requested. At that point, I made a reservation at a different hotel. The next day I noticied that GetARoom.Com charged my credit card. When I contacted them about the charge, they told me it was non-refundable. Even after I explained the situation to them, they still refused to remove the charge.
I booked a hotel for two nights on August 5, 2014. When I received the confirmation, it stated cancellations before 8/3/14 @10pm are fully refundable. How am I supposed to cancel on 8/3/14 when i didn't book the reservation until 8/5.
Anyhow, I showed up at the hotel at 11pm on August 5th. This hotel was the most disgusting hotel I ever arrived in. The mattresses were soiled, there was hair all in the bathtub, and the sheets were not changed. As a single mother, not famular with the area, I had no chose to stay as it was too late to travel to another hotel with my two small boys. I barely slept worrying about be bed bugs and my boys.
As soon as morning came, I let the front desk know that the hotel was not up to standards. I checked out and called phone number on my reservactions with Getaroom.com. I told them what was going on and they contacted the hotel. I was told they will call me back after speaking to the hotel. They advised me they would not be able to refund me the money unless the hotel refunds them. After not hearing anything back, I then called again and spoke to a rude woman who advised me that the hotel refused to refund me the money. She told me to speak to the hotel directly and send them something in writing (if the hotel agreed to refund the money). I spoke to the hotel who advised me they will only bill me getaroom.com for one night.
In the meantime, I then checked my bank and I was also charged from the hotel directly. Therefore, getaroom.com never was invoiced to begin with. This is the first lie they gave me. The hotel had to credit me for the entire invoice because i never booked with them. When they sent me the credit the charges from get a room.com was also on the invoice. Getaroom.com was only invoiced for one day and I had proof.
I called getaroom.com again and told them the hotel agreed to only bill for one night and that I would like to be refunded for one day because of the hotel's poor unsanitary conditions. The reprentative now told me that it is their policy that they do not refund for early check out if I didn't cancel before August 3, 2014. AGain I did not book the hotel until August 5.
Getaroom.com had no intentions from the begining to refund me any money. I wasted a whole day with phone calls back and forth from the hotel and getaroom.com It was not my fault that I arrived in a hotel (in which they contract with) that was unsanitary.
They are so unprofessional and a repretable company would not do business like this.
