This morning I recieved an email stating that geek squad was going to automaticly deduct my yearly subscription price from my account on June 2, 2015. I phoned them to say I did not want to renew. The very nice lady verified that I had paid my last subscription in full and it would expire on June 1, 2015. I told her I did not want to renew my subscription of web root thru geek squad on on June 2, 2015. She then informed me she was canceling my renewal and that it would take place immediatly. I have no issues with Web Root, they are great, but for geek squad to cancel my security 1 month prior to expiration ??? I will never use their services again for any reson. Best Buy should reconsider Geek Squad in my humble opinion.
I took a computer in for GeekSquad to get the data off the hard drive. They said it was $160 but I got a free 500 Gb hard drive they would put the data on. They had my computer for a week and could not do the work. I had to pay in advance, so when I picked it up I wanted a refund. They refunded $99, not $160. They told me the hard drive was mine to keep. I asked if I could have brought in my own hard drive and paid less than $160 (if they had been able to do the work). They said YES. I was PISSED. I told them I didn't need the hard drive and would Ihave brought my own, except that they told me it was free anyway.
If they had been able to do the work I would never of known I was ripped off. I demanded a refund for the hard drive too. They did it, but only because I was furious.
THEY LIED TO ME!
On top of that, they told me why they couldn't transfer the info....and every reason was something they knew when I dropped the computer off!
On top of that, they send emails continually with a phone number for status updates. But when I called that number a guy took 10 mins checking 2 databases and could not give me a current status. He said they have minimal info and I had to call the store for details, like did they resolve the problems and were they going to be able to do the work. So why send me a number for status updates when they refer me to the store???
I called the store and no one could speak to me. They took my name and number and said someone could call within an hour. NO ONE EVER CALLED....EVER.
Worst shopping experience in years! DON'T GO TO GEEKSQUAD!!
Watch out regarding Geek Squad protection plans!!! I had damage to my phone that they determined was a factory-created problem and they would not cover it. What a waste of money for Geek Squad protection. When I asked to cancel the customer service rep became impatient/angry. I cancelled the service onlt to be re-billed. My bank reported this as a fraudulant change; that is how I foind out about it. Apparently, I had cancelled one of two protection plans that were assigned to me and I never knew there were two seperate plans. Fortunately I got hem to cancel the second one and reimburse me the money for the re-billing. Customer service rep said yes I had cancelled and saw the cancellation date which was over a month ago. And somehow she used this as justification that both plans should have been cancelled then. Well, earlier she said that I would have needed to deliberately cancel both. So, it is pretty confusing. Be careful if you sign up with Geek Squad protection in a Best Buy store as they were not clear that there were two seperate plans I was being signed up for. In gact, don't sign up. Forget it. It is ridiculous. Anyway, Apple replaced the whole screen on my phone at no cost and they were helpful and friendly. I will not purchase another cellular phone/contract through Bestbuy.
Problems I wanted fixed - Devices & Printers sceeen blank - not showing available devises; MS Office Pro applications occasionally froze and attempts to use the Repair feature of the progrm would not work and Adobe Reader update would not complete and couldn't delete program to load updated version. I was told they would delete the Adobe Reader and reload it.
Problems all typed up by me in detail and given to Geeks.
Two days later they called and said it was ready. Upon arrival to pick up they wanted me to sign a statement that all was fixed. I was dealing with a non computer literate sales woman. I tried the Device and Printer section first. It didn't work. I then tried to Repair MS Office. The Repair feature still didn't work. And Adobe had not been reloaded.
However, it would update.
They had said they would put Webroot on my computer and I told them I didn't want it because I had McAfee Security Scan Plus. When I got the computer back, MaAfee had been erased and Webroot was installed.
Aside from telling me the computer was fixed, although I asked to talk to a terchnition, the non-computer literate woman at the counter acted as a messaenger girl between the Geeks in the back room and no knowledgeable person would talk with me. Obviously the computer had not been checked after they ran their majical software to see if the problems were fixed.
I was told to bring in a printer and they would check it. The printer does not have to be present for its icon to appear on the Device and Printer screen once it is set up. I had a label printer, a Dell printer, a color wifi HP printer, a scanner and other devices. None appeared on the screen. Easy to check, but no-one did.
In the end, they said my computer would have to be reformated meaning I would have to reinstall all the programs. That's easy if you have the program and the drivers and Office !0 etc etc.
I give this group a 1 only because I was now able to update Adobe Reader (which they were going to reload). For this non-professional service (I use the word "service" loosely) I paid $203
Please, I need help. I’m trying to stay calm. I have a fully covered Canon 5d mark3 that I purchased from Best Buy. I brought it in with an error msg. ~I received an email that they were fixing it. I got an email saying that they DID fix it. It arrived to my house today with a note inside “RETURNING UNIT UNREPAIRED. BB LISTS MODEL # AS 6410055” I was promised by the Geek Squad at Best Buy that my warranty would cover the camera & that their people would fix it.
WHAT IS GOING ON?!?!?!?!?!
Today is Wednesday. I’m a wedding photographer, and I’m shooting a wedding this SATURDAY!!!!!! This is NOT ACCEPTABLE!
I paid a ton of money for the camera, AND paid EXTRA for the added protection of an additional warranty.
So, I went into Best Buy to trade in my phone to get a new one on friday the 18th of April. While i was there I was told that my old insurance plan would cancel (with geek squad) and my new plan would take effect that day (also with geek squad). I got a notice today that my account was over drawn because Geek Squad billed me for my old plan. After calling them, I was told that its not there fault that there was no money in my account and they would do noting to but wait until i sent them proof of the over draft fee and the money they cost me (which i understand this part.) The reason i am writing this is because the added money that they cost me and the damage to my credit and ability to pay my bills. watch and see how a ten dollar error cost me more than 200. Of which i will get back $47. With them taking out money from my bank that didnt belong to them and taking up to TWO MONTHS to give me that money back ($9.99). The $9.99 now goes and hits me with an overdraft fee of $37, because I was over drawn by like a dollar or two.
Now here is the fun part. I get paid this friday, and all of my bills are basically due no later than friday at midnight. That missing money will cost me to be un able to pay two bills, ($25 and $80, and yes that amount is over that i am missing, but there is a longer story that i dont need to go into, needless to say the money im missing doesnt allow me to turn the money into more with a sale of some goods and then make the money i need to cover it like i was planning) That 80 missing will now cost me a $30 late fee and a $36 dollar reinstatement fee. So here we are $147 in the hole and still have the other $25 dollar bill that will cost me a $30 late fee and another reinstatement fee on top of that. Not to mention all of the negetive effects it will have on my credit and trying to repair my credit. After getting on the phone with these people it was made clear that they are in no hurry to help correct their mistake, and the damage it causes. It is funny how companies want their money as soon as they decide you owe it (wether you do or not) but then take as long as legally possible to reurn what they stole.
Ill preface this with stating that I'm relatively computer savvy, however there are times when I simply do not have the time to fix the issues caused by my families web browsing habits, nor the patience. I've utilized Geek Squad quite a few times since the late 2000's with problems here and there, but nothing like what I've experienced the last year of doing business with them. The most recent experience I've had with the Geek Squad has left an incredibly sour taste in my mouth.
In early March, I took a computer into Geek Squad to have them remove an apparent virus. My eldest son had been using the PC for ""homework,"" and had been complaining of numerous pop ups and issues where the browser would take you to a, less than desirable, website other than where you requested to go. I spent about an hour going through it and trying to remove the virus. The conclusion that I had was that the infection was beyond my abilities and would have to be looked at by a professional.
The next day, I took it in and dropped it off with the familiar faces at my local best buy. One of the guys in there recognized me and got the paperwork started as usual. Took my concerns down, noted the hardware I’d dropped off and said they would call the next day after he had a chance to look at it. Next day rolls around- No Call. Next Day – No Call. Five days into it I receive a call, from someone other than my normal tech, who says the problem is fixed, and the PC is ready for pickup.
$199.99—Not too bad, considering it was 4 or 5 days’ worth of work on the computer, I’m just happy to have the computer back. It’s hard to share the three computers we have in the house with the 5 family members in our household. Upon getting the computer home, hooked up, and turned on the first thing I noticed was that the computer was NOT fixed. It was exactly how it was when I had dropped it off. I contacted the store that evening and was instructed to bring the machine back in, and they would look at it.
I immediately unplugged it, drove it back over, and dropped it off with the same technician that released it to me just hours earlier. The tech informed me that it would be looked at first thing in the morning, by the technician that usually works on my machines. At this point, I am upset, but more frustrated. I am very understanding and do realize that things happen. This is a fact of life. The problem occurred when 48 hours later, I get a call to pick the computer up. Rinse and repeat.
Get the machine home, kids are using it for a few hours to get homework down, the pop ups appear and the “browser redirects” start happening, this time much worse than before. The computer is now locked up and unusable. It was at this point, we shut the machine off and left it alone. The following morning, I called and spoke with a Geek Squad supervisor about getting a full refund for the service. The manager instructed me to bring the computer in and they would take a look at it.
At this point I told them I had already hired someone else to fix it and repair the issues, and I would prefer a refund. The manager said they could not do that and that I had to bring the machine back in. Obviously, I am unable to do this. I found an online computer repair company, SafePCFix, that will do the repair remotely and while you watch (if you want.) They had walked me through the connection process and were fixing it, while I was on the phone with Geek Squad supervisor trying to get the refund from the botched job.
While they declined to do it, the tech I was working with offered to help me get a refund by providing proof of the rootkit that was still installed on the machine. I contacted the CC Company with the information the technician gave me and they refunded my money back to my account. I’m unsure if Geek Squad is going to fight the case or not, but the technician at safepcfix told me they would help out if they needed to. It took these guys 2 hours to fix Geek Squad’s errors and mistakes.
The computer works better than it did when we purchased it, and I am very happy with the work. I will no longer be using Geek Squad, and I recommend that no one else does either. There are times to skimp on repair services, and when you’re dealing with expensive electronics, its better to do it right the first time. I sincerely hope that none of you have to go through what I did. It has been quite a nightmare. Note: I have annexed some details out of the above story to save time and space. If anyone is interested in getting more details about my experience, please email me and I will be happy to answer any questions that you have.

In March of 2013 I purchased a chrome laptop from best buy along with a $50 dollar protection plan.
In March of 2014 I was informed that my protection plan was due to be re-newed so I went in to Best Buy
to re-new ,only to be told that they don't re-new plans instore but that I must re-new online using the link provided
in their e-mail, the link they provided did not work so I called their 800 number.
I was told that my new plan was 133.00 I asked why it was so much and was told that that was the new protection
plan price . I payed only because I didn't have time to investigate as it was the last day to re-new .
Unfortunately because of a family medical crisis I completely forgot to find out why my protection plan was
so expensive.
Fast forward to August, my Chrome laptop was completely broken so I bought it in to Best Buy for repair ,
they werent able to repair so I was given a brand new laptop but again had to purchase a protection plan
I needed an explanation as to why ,because I had just paid $133.00, needless to say the salesperson was shocked
I asked to see a manager and was told by the manager that I was ripped off and that I needed to call back Geek
Squad and get a refund for the difference.I called back and was shocked to find that they refused to refund the
difference of $83.00, I admit to becoming a bit hysterical at the gall they had to refuse me my hard earned money.
I called my bank and asked them to intervene ,only to be told after an investigation that the time had expired for
me to dispute the charges ...I find that to be very unfair and decietful , If I owed them a bill they would go after me
and I would be penalized by my credit being ruined.I would love to get the last laugh in this matter.
