I found this site on Google about a year ago looking for someone to service my GE dishwasher after it refused to drain properly. A tech came out and pulled out about about 5 small pieces of debris from the dishwasher that was preventing it from draining.
They state on their site that it is $90 just to come out to your home to look at the appliance-- and that parts and labor are additional.
The gentleman last year chargd me only the $90 trip charge because he mentioned it was such a minimal job.
The guy that came out two days ago (JIM)-- charged $190.94 for pulling out 2 less pieces of small debris!
Unfortunately my stepson was the one who approved the charge ( I NEVER would have!) and gave Jim the blank check I left (me thinking the charge would be similar to last time or slightly more).
I have ADT cameras in my home and I was watching the tech just stand there staring under my sink. He was at my home a total of 30 minutes, of which about 10 minutes were for the removal of 2 tiny paper pieces and a water bottle top.
Bottom line was-- he saw a nice home and decided to upcharge. My receipt actually said he charged 145 dollars for taking out these small pieces but he discounted it to 100 for me to total $190.94! What a sweetheart! Yeeeah right.
When I called the phone number and spoke to someone he said the tech charges however much they decide fit. I asked for a supervisor, only to be transferred to a ghetto-fabulous sounding "case manager" who proceeded to tell me how lucky I was to have gotten that discount and the 1st rep I had who only charged me $90 did it as a courtesy. Of course she said that the reps adhere to a strict computer code on "debris charges"....riiiight.
Safe to say, I will never call this company again for repairs. Its a crap shoot. You MAY get a good rep, or you may need Vaseline.
We purchased a home in FL in July 14, 2014. We returned to our winter home on Nov 2 to the sound of water dripping when we opened the front door. The GE Profile bottom freezer model # PFSF6PKWBWW refrigerator serial # FR 070438 had flooded our winter home with more than 7000 gallons of water.
The cause was the water filter cartridge located in the refrigerator compartment. The GE original equipment cartridge had split allowing water to flow throughout our recently purchased home. We had left the refrigerator unplugged and had it completely checked during a home inspection when we bought the home in July. Our water bill indicates the leak occured during the month of October when we were billed for 7000 gallons of water.
The water soaked into the kitchen cabinets, the drywall, carpeting in two rooms, and ruined the bedroom furniture and office furniture in these 2 rooms.
A layer of mold covers many items not damaged by the water. A rough estimate of the damage is about $50 thousand dollars.
This is a modern refrigerator less than 7 years old and in excellant condition. The web has several stories of similar leaking water filters, but every report I read was in an occupied home. If you have a vacation home with this type of refrigerator, shut off your water and think about replacing the refrigerator with a more reliable unit.
I'm sure my out of pocket costs including living in a hotel for 2 weeks before we returned to our summer home in the frozen North and our deductables, and the depreciated value we will receive for the damaged household items wll amount to at least $10 thousand dollars.
I did contact GE and got no reponse other than their repair service to replace the filter. I would be very interested in any other similar incidents to mine.
I started to have a problem with refrigerator GE Monogram that I own. The problem was the water leak inside the freezer door which to my opinion can be fixed by taking the door apart and fixing the tubing that is inside the door. I called GE repair and repairmen came over and said he can fix the issue, gave me the quote and I agreed to it. We scheduled time for the repair and I had to take half day off in order to be home so that repair can be done. Repairman came and said that he does not have parts for it and he will have to re-schedule. We re-scheduled it again and same thing happened on the next appointment. I had to take time off my work, he came and asked if I received the parts by mail? I said no and he said that we need to re-schedule one more time. So the third appointment was scheduled and I was waiting for the repairman for 3 hours. Then GE Customer Service called and told me that I have to buy the whole door in order to fix the small leak inside the door because the part I am looking for is not available and that it will be very expensive but I will get a “discount”. Even if I would get the new door to fix small leak inside it which does not make any sense that door color would be different from the other door.
Not only GE appliances are poor quality they try to squeeze more money from consumers when they repair it.
