I started work for this company a while ago and at first it was great money but then realized that the prices that were being charged are outrageous compared to other companies. We are classified as independent contractors for this company so they do not have to offer us benefits but will write us up or take our pay or reduce our commission if we don't do all of the jobs. I have allot of information to show this and how we are supposed to take advantage of customers. Be careful and shop around for a better deal from other companies first before you get taken by these crooks.
This company put in a garage door opener last year and has had to come back 2-3 times to put a new board in and reset the opener because it stops working. They quoted a price and gave me a window of 4-7 pm and at 7"03 pm I got a call from Jose and he said he would be here at 8 pm. At 8:20 pm I called and they could not get a hold of him. Three more heated phone calls and the tech calls me back and gets nasty with me and I got nasty back with him. He calls in for a price and Michael gets on the phone and says he liistened to my phone calls back to last year and refused to play them to me.
Saying they quoted me labor and service call, etc which is a lie. The call got heated with both of us yelling. I asked him repeatedly to give me the amount so I could pay and they could go since it is now 9:30 pm. He then said they would note the account to never come out here again. Which is to my satisfaction because I have over $1.500 woth of receipts just to fix their less than 1 yr old door opener. Lance and Duke also lying about what I was told and transpired.
I have gone to the manufacturer before after the 2nd visit from putting in a $680+ door opener and he also stated this is a sorry company. Please don't use them. I have not had 1 service call that hasn't resulted in another $200 to $500 bill. They will not back their product and are very sarcastic as I was with them when I have to work and they have no sense of timing or care for your needs. I will never use them and I will let everyone know not to use any door company that has GDS in the name or run by or owned by ever again. Save your money and sanity.
Our tenants informed us that the garage had been broken so I called Garage Door Services to come out and do an estimate of work. They actually showed up on time which was supprising seeing as how anything else that I have needed a technician for was always late, however I digress. The gentlemen quoted me $864 to have to repair the entire garage door to include parts that needed to go along with it.
They did the work just fine and in a pretty timely manner, however, our tenants notified us that the garage door operator (opener) was not working. So being that I was currently unavailable, my wife went to the house to see exactly what the problem was. She sent me a picture because she was unsure what she was looking for, and to my dismay they had not installed the trolly and j-arm which the operator needs in order to actually work to open and close the door. So immediately I called the company to let them know of the situation and they said that they could have someone out there the next day between a certain time.
Once the installer arrived at the house, my wife was there with our tenants to make sure that everything went smoothly. Upon his inspection, he told my wife that the two items were missing and that it would be close to about $300 for parts and labor, when in that same installers first quote for the damaged door, the items were included in the total quote of $864.
I told him that I was not autherizing said installation and to just take off. Once I got off the phone with him, I called the company to complain of the situation and they said that they would have a supervisor call me back. 30 minutes later I still had not recieved a call so I called them back and immediatelyl was placed on the line with a supervisor. Said supervisor looked over the original quote, mind you I was also looking at the same quote so as we would be on the same page since I the customer had to e-mail him the Supervisor said quote, and he goes on to tell me that he sees nothing in the quote that involves any of these parts being part of the quote or installation.
I proceed to ask if there is any other person(s) that I can speak with and he informs me that I would not be able to talk to anyone other than him, as if he had complete control of the company. So I continue to ask for other management and also for the VP and President of the company and a phone at which I could reach them at and he would not give me any such information. I also asked what his company policies were toward customer questions and he again would not tell me, I asked where I could find such policies and he would not give them to me, defending it as if they were classified documents.
After getting off the line with him, I proceed to call the corporate number in San Diego and I was immediately put on hold, the customer service rep came back on the line and I immediately asked for a supervisor name, not to speak to one but just a name, and he refused to do so and put me on hold for 10 minutes and I haven't spoken to the company since. This company seems to be completley fraudelent in all aspects of the word.
My garage door would not open and issue appeared to be a broken spring. Garage Door Services Co. (GDS) Minneapolis MN had installed an opener and new rollers under two years ago so called their service number found on the sticker left behind by the installer (612-332-1875).
The service person who arrived (Rory) triggered some ""caution"" flags from the get go. Very poor personal presentation, grooming, hiding behind dark glasses, hat pulled loow, vehicle was unmarked and clearly a personal truck in poor condition.
Rory confirmed the spring issue and said both would need to be replaced. Okay. I asked for a price. He rattled off some fairly unclear information about ""good, better, best"" grades of springs. I said I wanted pricing for entry level springs - not interested in the upcharge model with a ""30 year warranty"". He said he would go out to his truck and get pricing together. He made several trips to get his tools out but did not produce an estimate. I went in the garage to see what was up and saw he had new springs out and was just starting to work.
Again, I asked the price. I was told $620.00. Sticker shock! I asked what the warranty period was on springs at that price and was told 30 years. When asked if we could get the price down, I was now told ""these are the only springs we carry"". He then proceeded to tell me "" I want to help you out here, so I have a coupon I can apply and I will take a hundred dollars off one of the springs and knock off the $89 servvice truck charge and try to keep the tax low"". I asked for the new total. He said it would now be $500.00. The math did not compute. The whold deal started to ""smell"".
I told him to hold for 3 min. that I really needed to ""gut check"" the price. Google pulled up The Garage Door Guy in Chanhassen MN as the first local and my call to them was promptly answered and with no hesitiation I was given a quote of $199.00 total out the door to replace (2) springs including parts / labor/tax. Needless to say I told Rory from GDS to pull off. The pricing was just too far out of line with a competitor. He said I would still need to pay the $89.00 service charge which did not sit well given I was pretty sure the whole deal was a pricing scam. I asked him to have his supervisor call me.
Rory called ""someone"" and wanted to hand h is phone to me. I insisted the ""supervisor"" call my phone. The supervisor identified himself as ""Zach, the owner's Son"" and said he ""really wanted to help me out"". He first offered to do the work for $350.00 and implied the other quote of $199 was a scam. I thanked him but declined. He then offered to do the work for $199 but would need to ""call his Dad first"" and Rory could get it all done in about 30 minutes. I asked for Zach for his last name and was told he was Zach Blumfeld, the owner's Son again. None of this sounded legit as I was pretty sure I was talking to a call center agent. I declined and said I would pay a $50 for the service call that since they could discount the work so deep, they could discount the $89 service charge and we were done.
In checking around, seems this is the strategy of whoever these people are. Pricing scam. DO NOT CALL THESE PEOPLE . . .EVER.
