I needed to purchase health insurance for my family outside of the open enrollment period. In response to my inquiry, I get a call from Freedom Life. I tell them the problems I had with my old insurance company, how much I can pay, etc. They tell me they can do better.
Preventitive care would be covered 100%. ER copays $200. Doctors and specialists would be paid $75 then a discounted rate after that. I was thinking great! My kids could see the doctor, and I would have limited out of pocket costs.
Well, $1,000 in medical bills later, I find out there is 0 preventive coverage. It only covers illness and injury. Okay. So now I have $600 in unpaid medical bills. After going back and forth with them they pay $6.57! So now I have been paying $500 a month for the past 3 months plus the $125 enrollment fee, to only have them pay $6.57! What's the point in insurance? It would have been cheaper to be self pay because my doctor offers a discount plan for uninsured patients.
The best part is when I call to cancel and tell them why there are no apologies for what their sales rep did. It's just and I quote "Well, you have our hospital, lab, and diagnostics discounts..." Really? What good does that do me with 3 kids with no major medical issues?
But here's the best part, if I shop online and use my member ID in the promo/coupon code box I can save 2% at Walmart, Staples, and other participating retailers.
Biggest scam insurance company possible. My family plan was almost $500 a month and I took my 6 month old daughter to receive her REQUIRED vaccinations and received an over $500 bill in the mail stating the insurance only paid $100 for the entire vist.
If I wanted to pay for my daughter's shots in full there is no reason whatsoever i would be paying almost what it costs to take her without insurance AND pay $500 for the bogus insurance.
I'm not one to get upset but now I have a $500 bill that I can't afford to pay and I called to complain and spoke to a VERY rude woman named Cathy on the phone. I then asked to speak to her supervisor and she laughed at me then placed me on a 30 minute hold until I finally hung up.
I have never been so dissappointed in an insurance company and I hope at the very least this post keeps someone else from being ripped off by this terrible company that will claim to be good insurance.
I hope in some way god sends me the necessary funds to afford this extravagant half a grand doctors visit and I hope Ms. Cathy the rudest customer "service" agent ever loses sleep knowing she works for a fraudulent company.
