I leased a postage meter from FP for several years. I retired 3/1/14. The lease was up for renewal around August same year. We notified FP that the person who replaced me would continue the lease until it ran out.
When lease ended FP was contacted & asked about how we should return the meter. We did as instructed. (nothing was mentioned about not giving them proper notice that we wouldn't be renewing the lease)
A few months after return of the meter FP began billing me for another year lease.
Hidden in the fine print of their contract is a requirement that they be notifed 6 months prior to renewal if lease won't be renewed.
The only reason I can see for them having this clause is to 'catch' the customer & require them to keep their equipment another year.
When I received a bill from them, I contacted them by email. I told them if they were going to require that I pay another year's lease payment then I expected them to return the meter to me for that year. They didn't respond for over two months, but continued billing me. I emailed them twice in that two month period but received no response. Finally they contacted me. Although they still insist I pay for another years lease they will not return the meter for my used during that time.
