Fed to the sharks...What does a gray-haired great grandmother do when she wants to buy a reliable, a Certified Pre-Owned Mercedes-Benz? She calls her neighbor of 14 years, who owes a home next door to her property. a Sales Manager and long-term employee with Fletcher Jones Motorcars in Newport Beach, CA.
In December 2013, a lady friend accompanied me to an appointment I had with sales manager, Cushman King and his associate, Mike McMullen. They showed us around the car lot with emphasis on a 2009 CLK 350 coupe. Both men stated to me and my friend that this car had only one previous owner, a couple from Beverly Hill. This is the first lie.
I noticed a strong chemical odor inside the car and I was assured by Mike McMullen the odor was from the Mercedes-Benz Certified Pre-Owned maintenance and inspection process. Then Mike said, ""Guaranteed, the odor will be gone in 2 or 3 weeks"". At another trip to Fletcher Jones Motorcars, Mike referred to the toxic odor as, ""it smells like new car smell to me"". Excuse me, but I didn't purchase a new car!
After I purchased the car I learned I was the 4th owner of this 2009 CLK 350. The chemical odor did not go away and at times had gotten worse and then I noticed a substance growing inside of the instrument cluster.
This car sold to me by Fletcher Jones Motorcars did not make it through the Mercedes-Benz as advertised by MBUSA, that is, ""Each of our Certified Pre-Owned vehicles undergoes a rigorous inspection process"".
After phone calls and trips back and forth, (three (3) trips where I had to leave the car overnight) to the Service Dept. I was told by the Service Dept. to contact the Sales Dept. and the same Sales Teams as they wanted me to select another car. This time, I called my son who drove five hours to meet with me at Fletcher Jones Motorcars in order to select another vehicle.
At this meeting we were told by Cushman King's Sales Assistant, Justin Smyres, I would not be getting a full price trade-in value for the 2009 CLK 350. And, now they have reduced the value of the car by $8,000.
Remember, this is the defective car they sold to me 3 months earlier.
In addition, I incurred the expense of the sales tax & DMV fees for over $2,500. and then I will have to pay these fees again for a second car.
After 4 hours of B.S. from Cushman King ande Mike McMullen, Cushman said to me and my son, ""You are wealthy and you can handle the loss"". When I objected stating I was not wealthy, Cushman said, ""I think you are, and life is too short and to move on"". I closing he said, ""Its just business"".
We walked away after condescending Cushman King and arrogant, slick Mike McMullen came up with another scheme, for me to purchase a 2nd used car from them with the pitiful trade-in value, high sticker price on the 2nd car and for me to come up with another $15,961.
Fletcher Jones Motorcars believes they are too big to fail... Run, don't walk away from this non-class outfit.
