A few months ago we received a phone call from a company called Five Star Sports and we were very interested in doing posters that would be at schools and run around $600.00. My husband told the company he was interested in doing these posters and we were supposed to receive the information by mail on how to proceed with developing, etc. We never received anything so we went forward with other advertising. We received a phone call weeks later asking for us to send what we would like on these posters. We notified them at this time that we were no longer interested. They stated that we only originally had 10 days to change our mind (although this was never stated on the original phone call or agreed upon by us and there was no poster even created). I mentioned that no one said anything about a 10 day policy nor did we agree to do this poster. They sent me a recorded phone conversation of my husband stating he would like this poster created, but there was no details on the policies of cancellation on this conversation and this poster was not even curently created!! When I talked to Five Star Sports about this, they stated that cancellation details were in the packet they sent (which we never received). Our budget for advertising was used on other advertising with companies that followed through at that time and yet Five Star Sports proceeded to create a poster without our permission and tried to bill us for $600. I have not seen the poster, but I am assuming they also used our trademarks without our permission. They called and sent notices for payment and I told them to no longer harrass me and to contact my attorney, but to be forewarned that I would be pursuing them for attorney fees. They continued to contact us regardless (there are collection laws that protect individuals from this type of harrassment, but they ignored this). I just received a collections notice, so clearly this company thinks that they can interest you in advertising and bully you into paying regardless of whether you want to move forward or not. I contacted the local school and they said they receive maybe $500 a year for these posters, I would rather donate directly to the school considering they were going to charge me $600 and that was only my businesses portion....they must make over $4000+ per poster since there are multiple advertisers and the school's portion is so small! Do not even chat with these people on the phone!! Just one conversation on the telephone with this company and that led to them sending us a collections notice. We never signed anything and we told them we were no longer interested so don't even engage in a conversation with this company, it can lead to a lot of hassle. We are a very small family business and cannot afford to throw away $600. just to get rid of them....this seems to be their tactic, to harrass you into paying them money. Scam artists!
