Fifth Third Bank Reviews

  • Jan 3, 2015

I had bought my car in April 2009 on 66 month agreemnet paying around 300 dolalrs a month. In 2010 I lost my job and could not afford to make the payments. My car got repoed. It was around tax season, so I used my tax return to pay the towing company and fifth third bank to become current on all my payments. I was told to get my car back I would have to pay the money for the months I missed plus interest to become current. So I paid the amount to get my car back. I have not missed a payment since i may have been a couple days late paying it on the due date but I never went over my grace period. In November 2014, it was my 66th month, so I sent in my monthly amount About 2 weeks, later I get a bill from Fifth Third Bank stating that I still owe over 3,000 dollars. I called them immediately. They told me that its because of the repoe and the interest of late charges. I told them that it was the payments are current when I paid the amount back in 2010 to get my car back. I asked for them to send me a summary of my payment activity. I got the payment summary a couple weeks later, I noticed that they were charging me late interest fees before my grace period. I had to make payments by 23rd of each month, my grace peiod was on the 8th of the follwoing month, so i have until then to pay until they start charing my late interest. However, some months I would pay my on the 26th, and then have a late interest fee dated on the 7th of the following month. I called back upset about them charging my extra before my grace period. However they were very rude and continue to harass me for the 3,000 dollars, I refuse to pay because I became current after my repoed. I dont know what to do.

I'm intentionally leaving out exact details to avoid retribution from this company. I've got a credit score over 700+ and have never had major credit issues. Yes, the occasional late charge but nothing major no delinquencies. I bought a vehicle and financed through the dealer and Fifth Third Bank was the financing bank.

I assumed I'd get some paperwork in the mail and waited to get a letter with financing details. About 30days after I bought my truck I begin receiving random phone calls from blocked numbers or numbers that are absolutely odd. I don't answer calls from places I don't recognize or with weird numbers. The numbers calling also did not leave a message so I assumed it was spam or junk. Well, after around 30days I hadn't received anything and I get a a little weirded out so I call the dealership and get the name of the bank and call them directly.

the first 53 rep said they can't talk to me I need to talk to the collections department and the 'standard' agents wont talk to me. I get immediately transferred to a guy named "Todd". This happened almost a year ago but I'll never forget how he spoke to me. He immediately tells me I'm delinquent on my account and I immediately say I didn't get any paper work and say okay I'll make a payment today. I asked him what exactly was the grace period for payment like most normal banks as it seems really soon to be in collections. Todd says there is NO grace period and payment is due immediately on your account again repeating I owe a payment. I said okay the payment is $500 or so right and tell him one moment, let me get you my account information. He immediately responses, oh, no your payment is $500 payment isn't that (what was financed) with you being SO late you owe a late charge ($35), you owe a payment fee of ($35) and with your current payment you owe two payments.Todd says if I don't pay over $1200 in the next 2 days he's going to have my vehicle repossessed and report me to crediting agencies.

I immediately freak out and give in to anything he says, like I said before I've *NEVER* had issues like this before and immediately thought of my credit history that I've worked so hard to maintain. He also made the situation very personal not just 'gonna repossess' but made me feel like a piece of **** for an obvious mistake. Well, he sets up the next 3 payments to autodraft out of my account but after 3 months I have to make a payment via the 'paperwork' they supposedly sent. I asked him why I can't just set it to auto draft indefinitely and he says I can't do that and the only way to do that is to setup drafting with a voided check that has to be mailed in. Seriously this is 2013, what bank requires this stupidity anymore? You also can not make payments online without a 53 bank account. Well there are no 53 banks where I live so how exactly am I supposed to do that? So three months go by and I get another call from 'collections' to let me know I'm "late" and this time they tell me they can setup 3payments for another 35dollar charge. This continues for the rest of the year because I didn't have time to get them a voided check (I don't even have checks and haven't in YEARS). Finally I was on the third or fourth go round of this and decide to refinance the car. I see I didn't get autodrafted and start getting odd phone calls from blocked #s or unknown # or strange non-real #s. It's another collections agent. I tell the agent what is going on and he starts in with that I owe $1200 and late fees and payment fees I said I've refinanced the car you're getting a pay off within 7-10business days. He notes in the account that I've called in and again asks for a payment. I said you're getting a payment with 7-10days for the entire balance, he then hangs up on me abruptly.

I call back the main number and get a REAL 53 bank rep. I tell her the above story and she immediately says she understands that they get complaints like this *ALL* the time. I asked her, what is the grace period, she says 15days and I asked how long am I into my grace period, I'm NOT EVEN OUT OF THE GRACE PERIOD YET! I told her I wasn't mad at her but the other department is totally out of control and the sole reason I refinanced was to stop this harassment. She comps my charges and apologize and I tell her a dozen times I'm not mad at her but I've *never* been treated like this. She puts me down for 'no call' and recommends I call in the next 5-10days to make sure they get payment, I agree and disconnect. I could tell she cared and felt bad for me. Well after last night I get another call today, and again I get to listen to the guy I talked to yesterday tell me I owe 1200+. I tell him hey man you hung up on me last night I told you I refinanced and the other rep took me off the call list. He checks a few things then verifies some information then tries to be nice and disconnects.

Fifth Third Bank complaint

I had changed my insurance companies for a lower rate and submitted it to Fifth Third Bank. They owed us a refund of $170.85. I called Faith Third to find out where the refund was and the guy I spoke to said he didn’t know. I thanked him and hung up. That day the refund was in the mail and I deposited it in my bank. This was 8/27/14. I received a call from my bank Sunday. They told me that there was a stop payment on the check I received. I called Fist Third to find out what was going on and that I had bank charges for the stop payment. The supervisor, Angela, told me to send my bank statement to her. I sent the information from my bank. I called to find out if she had received them. She said no, so I sent them again. I called later and was handed off to another supervisor. While talking to the hand off, Angela was e-mailing hand off to tell me that she, Angela, let another supervisor listen or look at the transcripts and said that I told the original guy to stop payment on the check and send another one. I asked to hear the recording of myself but the supervisor said it was against company policy.

I had been given two other supervisors to talk to but all were out, I left voice massages. No one called back. I called once more and low and behold Angela answered. I got nowhere. I then wrote Danielle Sparks, the secretary to the president, and she sent me a letter telling me the same thing. That I told the original guy to stop payment, which I did not. I called and finally got Danielle and asked how she received the information. She said the two supervisors told her. I asked to hear the conversation of the recording. She told me that it was deleted because of the date. It had been past a thirty day time. I got nowhere with her either.

This started on 8/27/14 and today is 10/28/14. I just got off the phone with the presidents secretary and that is why I am writing BBB. This is only $44.00 in charges but the thought of First Third Bank having my personal information and sending mortgage payment every month makes me uneasy. What can be done?

After using Automatic withdraw with Fifth Third Bank I cancelled automatic withdraw because everytime a payment was withdrawn the other bills were also withdrawn which made my account overdraw. I emmediately was contacted by bank and told I now owed $800.00 to get from out of reposession. My payments were ony $236.00 per month. Also oddly I owe $6550.00 on boat! Almost paid for and they would rather threaten me with repo!! I am only 2 payments behind but the errogance of the associate from this person that called was unimaginable! I simply told her to come take boat and that I will see them in court. There has to be a case with this. Any attorneys out there?

Anyways I guess I will Pay what I can $236.00 but she won't take a partial payment and told me since I cancelled automatic withdraw they were siezing my boat by the next few days. I am looking into what can be done but i wish everyone will cancel account with these arrogent bully's! It really is amazing how we the people bailed out these son of bitches by the us government and they will act like this.

Tried to improve my credit score by opening a secured credit card. The banker stressed to me how much this will help as she took my $3000 to start a savings account linked to a new credit card. It took two months to receive the card. Bills were hardly recieved and when they did arrive they were not itemized. Another banker told me to leave a balance every month as if I would believe her. This entity did not report monthly to credit unions so I was wasting my energy with this horrific bank. Be on high alert if you have to deal with this company.

They are awful. Simply the worst bank and the most unprofessional bankers I have ever had to deal with. One banker at the Nora location was told that I was closing my account which had over $100 k put in every year and he said, "We don't need your money!" They are crooks, pure and simple. The goal for them is to extract as much money from your pockets as possible and to do this they ensure you will be unable to dial up your account(s) online to check balances and payments received.

They are also linked to Capital One someway and that company is also a little goofy. Their identity theft "service" is unrealiable and they slip that in without your approval then you pay for service unwanted un-used. Tricks all the time. You must stay on your tippy toes with Fifth Third Bank because they are unethical and cheat every chance. The best thing we can do for our piece of mind and for our credit score is to close any all accounts and proceed to (((competitor's name redacted))). You have been warned. Nobody warned me. Worst bank ever.

Be very careful using this bank, (Fifth 3rd 39 whipp rd cenetrville ohio) NO ONE in this bank has any idea of policies on fees or overdraft charges. They are very incompetent especially on business accounts, This includes all employees up to the Asstistant Vice President. I was Charged over $370.00 in fees on a $10 purchase that was a bank error. Due yourself a favor and save your hard earned money, either go to a different branch or try Cxxxx (((REDACTED))) . Have had great luck with them so far!!

I had the misfortunate of getting stuck with Fifth Third Bank as Auto Lender for a vehicle I recently financed. I am married with good income and credit score near 800. I pay my bills on time; I have never had any issues with any banks or lenders, and have never filed a Ripoff Report or the like about any of my past experiences with banks and/or lenders.

That all changed once I unfortunately became involved with Fifth Third Bank. To begin with, I never received a billing statement for my first payment and within hours of my very first payment being ""late,"" the collections calls started coming. And coming, and coming, and coming...relentless, at all hours, usually from a ""No Caller ID"" number, but often from the dreaded 866-450-0037 number as well. I have never been harrassed like this in my entire life - and I have student loans! Mind you, this was my FIRST payment, a small amount no less that I could easily afford given my income. No matter.

I was charged a late fee and when I disputed that seeing as how I had never received an actual bill for anything and was more than happy to make my contractually agreed payment on time, I was repeatedly denied by a progression of illiterate customer service reps who were likely on furlough from an Ohio federal penitentiary. Oh yeah, and those lovely collection calls just kept coming, and coming...

I informed them that I would litigate against them for unlawful collection practices rather than ever pay a late fee for anything having to do with that horrid bank. Unfortunately, I'm pretty sure the customer service rep I spoke to didn't know what ""litigate"" meant, so my pleas fell on deaf ears. So I'll see you in court, you bastards, and I guarantee you'll spend more than the value of that late fee on court and legal fees defending your pathetic, hostile - and unlawful - business practices.
