I received a call from a blocked number, and a woman with an Indian accent informed me that I was chosen to receive a grant in the amount of $8400. Yipee!!! She said that a survey was taken of people whI pay their taxes on time, have no criminal record, and may be low income and I was selected. She varied my personal information (e.g address, email, name, age), and said that I could choose 1 out of 3 options to get the funds. 1) western union 2) direct deposit into my bank account or 3) deposit onto a prepaid credit card. Perfect! I choose Western Union. she the. Gave me her supervisor's number along with a Grant confirmation # to get the money. I found it odd that when I asked for her name she said Jessie Smith when her accent was so far removed from her name. I wrote it off as my own prejudice.
I call 206-395-3145 and ask to speak to Nelson Vega. He was a fast talking man with a thick Indian accent as well. He finally got to te point and directed me to my nearest cvs, dollar tree, walgreens, or rite aid to purchase a Green Dot $ Pack card for only $4.25 and to put $190.00 On the card. He assured me nobody was going to touch the money. I asked him if no one will touch the money why do I have to put it on the card. He said to cover the wire transfer fees and taxes. When earlier Jessie Smith assured me it was tax free. So I asked him if he could take the fee from the $8400.00. He said no. I told him I didn'to feel comfortable putting money on the card and sending it to him in order to gain access to my grant. By this time he was upset, his patience was fleeting fast and he was talking even faster. I told him to calm down, that I am a single mom who could really use this money to go back to school and I'm only asking because I's have to borrow the money to pay for the pack( I lied {shrug}). So he needs to be patient and answer my questions. By the way I asked about four times why I needed to purchase the money pack.
He assured me, "ma'am no one is going to touch the money and it'll be refunded right away!" I said if no one is going to touch it the. Where does it go? He said the us treasury in New York. I said then it does go to someone. I politely asked for their website he said www.us.grant.gov.org then I asked for the name of the program, he said Federal Treasury Grant. I asked what are my next steps once I purchase the pack. 1) call him back with the pack number 2) I'll receive a text with the western union CN#. I politely said ok I call you back, hung up, and looked for the company. I failed to realize that the web address is totally illegitimate. I found this site and am now posted to prevent others from being scamed.
