Upon moving to a different state I was required to change my car insurance policy to a different state. Since I was not satisifed with the agent who took over my insurance policies when my agent retired, I chose to not use Farmers insurance and went with a different company.
I called the Yuma AZ. farmers insurance office (Jack Delange) to cancell my insurance and was informed that I would receive a refund of $117.00 for unused premiums paid.
After about a month I received another bill in the mail and upon calling them about it I was told it would be taken care of. Of course the very next month I get another bill, and I called again. Several times I was informed that it would be taken care of and would recieve a refund.
However I then receive a notice of insurance cancellation due to "non-payment of premiums", and later a bill for a balance due to Farmers. Then they start sending me to a collection agency called "Credit Collection Services".
Since I seemed to be getting nowhere with Farmers insurance in resolving this, I filed a complaint with the BBB, and not only did Farmers give me a run around, but they also gave the BBB the run-around, finally stating that all they needed was for my current insurance agent to give them a call and inform them of when my new policy took effect, and they would correct it. I did contact my current agent and she did call them, and it was assumed that it was all resolved through this and the BBB. Yesterday I recieved another collection notice from "Credit Collection Services". It appears that Farmers is not serious about providing good customer service and is using this collection agency to extort money out of customers under threat of a collection being filed on their credit report.
How does Farmers get away with 1) Not providing a refund of pre-paid premiums when you cancell your policy. 2) Bill you for insurance after you have contacted them to cancell your policy (regardless of if you have a new policy or not). 3) send you to collection for this amount. 4) Send you to a collection agency on a fraudulent billing?????
EXTORTION! That is the only reason. And the biggest kicker is that is for only around $200.00! I guess that they just figure folks will pay the small amount to keep it off of their credit report, but if you multiply thay times everyone who has ever cancelled a policy from Farmers I'm sure it could add up to quite a bit.
I purchased worrk mans comp. insurance from Farmers Ins. I have known this agent for many years. In July of this year I recociled my bank statement and saw that Farmers took out over $ 2800.00 out of my business account, and doubled my monthly payment. When I called to find out what was going on they told me that they did an audit of my payroll and said because of employees that I had added to my work force. When I called my agent he said when he wrote the policy he only put one employee, and when they did the audit they charged me for seven employees. I have never had just one employee, and the agent new this. He said he did it to make my monthly payment lower. But also admited that he was aware that Farmers did an audit. He knew that this would cause them to charge me this amount if I had more employees than he claimed. I canceled my policy with them and on October 24 th they sent me another bill for $ 748.79, saying this is still due. Since the agent wrote the policy, knowing what my payroll was, and knowing that an audit would be done and I would be charged for additional employees, I believe he should be responcebile for all of the extra fees that I was charged. I am a small business and this is difficult for me to have this amount taken out at one time. Had the policy been written correctly it would have been acceptable as monthly payments. What would have happened if any or all of my employees would have filed a claim ? This is fraud and I want to be compensated for my loss.
I contacted Bill in January 2014 and infomed him I had changed my insurance to State farm and to cancle my car insurance effective January 24, 2014 and my home owners effctive March 1, 2014. Bill sent me a form to sign and return in order to cancel policy. I signed and sent it back electronically. Four months later I received a warning notice from Credit Collections Services stating I owed for the coverage and they would be putting on my credit if i did not dispute it in writing within 30 days. When I contacted Farmers about the matter I spoke with Mollie, she informed me Bill was no longer their but to forward her the e-mail I sent Bill requesting to cancle my insurance. Mpllie informed me she would handle the problem snd get me my refund. Two days lster I received another letter stating it was already turned over to the credit reporting agencys.
