A few years ago my mother had a stroke and we had to make the unfortunate decision to move her into a nursing home. As a result of this traumatic incident, we then saw the need to also make funeral and cemetery plans for my mother. My father purchased a double plot at Evergreen Washelli, several decades away. He passed away over 30 years ago, from ALS and is buried there. So, being the youngest son, I remembered that and thus, contacted Evergreen Washelli. I currently live in Georgia, but the agent that I was connected with was very supportive, empathetic and willing to assist. I handled all business transactions from Georgia and I was ensured that she would handle all details. We used my mother’s last bit of money,– a Certificate of Deposit – to pay for her funeral. My brother lives in Seattle, he withdrew the $14,000 to pay for the funeral and cemetery. The package did not include the headstone nor did it include the casket. The total was $13,650. They assured us that we could use the $350 to pay for the program and flowers. This summer my wife and I visited my mother (because she made a decision to be baptized) and we also met with the NEW representative from Evergreen Washelli to decide on a headstone. We were informed, that the $13,650 we paid was NOT for the funeral but ONLY the cemetery. This was not the agreement, and we have a signed receipt from the representative stating that the payment was for the funeral and cemetery. This is a very painful time in our lives. My brother passed away unexpectedly and my sister-in-law has since had a stroke. They are not willing to rectify this situation at all. Trust me, I thought they were an organization of integrity, but they are NOT. Stay away from them – shop around. All is not as it seems… We have contacted them as well as the funeral regulators and we are not receiving any assistance. We are truly distraught!
