European Auto Expo Reviews

  • Dec 12, 2014

I saw a car on European Auto Expo's website with a price that I thought was too good to be true. However, I had a conversation with a sales person who assured me that the car was not damaged in any way, that the pictures were accurate, and that the price was true as well. So, reluctantly, I made the two hour drive out to see the car.

"That car was sold half an hour ago. But don't worry, we have another that you might like."

At this point, I should have walked out. Yet, I digress. I saw the car and, of course, it was close enough that I decided to buy it. The price was just barely higher but the miles were lower so it was okay. However, after signing some preliminary paperwork the salesman threw a number out at me for what my monthly payments would be. I stated firmly that he must be mistaken; those payments were significantly higher than what I was expecting given the amount of money I was putting down. He assured me, though, that the number was correct. I then got out my calculator on my phone to prove that he was wrong. Suddenly, the truth came out.

"Well, there is a $3,000 dealership fee."

WHAT? When were they going to discuss this? After the paperwork was signed? He had showed me on paper the price I was paying for the car and it did not have the dealership fee (nor did their website).

"Every dealership does it. It is common practice." He assured me over and over again.

Of course most dealerships charge a dealership fee but (a) not a $3,000 fee on a $10,000 used car and (b) they include that in the price on both their website and in the price they show you. At this point, I realized that I had fallen for TWO classic bait-and-switches. Now I was irate. I demanded to see the manager to cancel any paperwork that I had already signed. I know that I am at wrong for not incesantly checking the papers I was signing but the salesperson was assuring me that the price I saw was the price I was paying. Apparently I trusted him too much.

In comes in manager - or rather, into his office I went.

"My salesman told you about the fee. It's common practice."

Now I was furious. At this point I couldn't even stand to be in the building anymore with these crooks so I, again, demanded they cancel the paperwork. I left in a bit of a rage at both the arrogance and the gall of these people to not only lie to me twice but to then act as if I was the foolish one. The customer is not always right here, apparently.

Please, please, please never do business with these crooks. I know they have an amazing inventory with prices that are unbeatable but that's because, simply put, they are.

When I left I remembered something that the salesman told me after I first commented on how competitive his prices were. He said to me, "Yes we do offer very good deals. In fact, our prices tend to be around $3,000 lower than KBB." Or so they seem.
