My father has Humana Integrated Care Program of Illinios health insuarance. He chose his Primary Care Physician(PCP)- Dr Joseph Kaliski at the time of signing up for insurance at the Illinios Client Enrollment Services website (EnrollHFS.Illinios.gov ). His name came up in the list of providers near where he lives. Dr Kalaski is part of Elmhurst Clinic which is located in the Center for Health- a building within Elmhurst Memorial Hospital.
Every time my father sees his PCP(mind you not a specialist or a hospitalization), the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital sends a claim to his insurance company for the facility fees they charge the Elmhurst clinic for using their space. Humana instantly rejects the claim because the claim is coming from a provider other than the PCP citing that the PCP has not provided authorization. The doctor's office says that they can't issue an authorization on themselves. Why on earth is Elmhurst Memorial Hospital charging my dad's insuarance for rent that the Elmhurst Clinic owes them . If they want rent from the doctor's office, they should send it to Elmhurst clinic. And the doctor's office should send one bill to the insurance.
Not only what they are doing is unethical, it also shows how ill equipped they are to deal with patients that have an HMO. Yet, my father pretty much can't get basic physical exams and follow up visits because the Elmhurst Memorial Hospital sticks him with a bill which is even bigger than the doctor's office bill. So now my father has health insurance but can't use it for all practical purposes.
