On June 21, 2014 my wife went to the local Discount tire store in for a routine balance and rotation. The Avon store manager used sexist intimidation towards my wife and refused to return my wife’s car to her. The store manager claimed the wheel studs were unsafe and wanted to have the car towed to a local automotive repair shop. Scam! Once I showed up he continued with his lies and refusal to return my wives keys. Were I come from this is called auto theft! I am a mechanical designer and have worked in this field for over 30 years. The store manager who it was obvious had no background in metallurgy was trying to tell me the wheel studs were bad. I inspected them and saw no damage. If he knew anything about steel and wheel stud design then he would know that these studs were designed to have a small recess after the shoulder and before the threads start. This is designed to relieve stress. The store manager then forced 110 pounds of rotational torque on the studs when reattaching the rims. Wow they did not break! The rotational forces would break a weak stud but yet these held tight! Then he had a tow truck driver force my wife’s car under its own power up an extreme incline on to his flat bed truck. This placed great torque not only on the wheel studs but also the drive train of the car as well. Once again if these wheel studs were as weak as the manager claimed they would have broken off but they did not. The tow truck driver was a good sport and after dropping my wife’s car off across the street, told me that this discount tire store calls him all the time to have cars towed to a repair shop. Sound like this discount tire store as a scam going with one of the local repair shops. I drove the car home without any problems. These sexist attitudes and lies by Discount tire of Avon will not stand!!!!
Discount tire will not put new tires on the fron of your car i bought a new tire had to order it from them and then they refused to put it on the front, by doing this they are making users keep older tires on the front, front tires will where out quicker and make you buy new tires sooner than you have to and they will not even rotate your tires if the ones on the back are in better condition than the front ones! so much for free tire rotation. In short they do not care about your safety!!! just money!! I feel better already i have told 8 people about this and will continue to do so! i will also post on as many sites as i can find!
